In the past, you open the event and scroll to the bottom of that popup window. There you can find a delete button.

There are some events I can't delete. For example, i import work appointments into my calendar and if I'm not the organizer I find that I can't delete them.

I am by no means an iDevice expert. My own investigation into this particular issue of having problems deleting calender items is that is is primarily of result of importing calenders from sites like facebook. Click on "Calenders" at the bottom of your Calendar App screen to see exactly what calenders you ARE importing from. Without even rememember setting that up i was connecting to Yahoo, Google, Facebook and then my own home and work calenders.

MOST of the calendar Items I wanted to be rid of dissapeared when I deselected Facebook! I would assume another option would be to delete those calendar items from your facebook account--and ON facebook you will wind up with a lot of calendar items just by befriending folks. I have facebook JUNK just as a result of letting family member in! :-) I would not be surprised if even from facebook you have to light candles, sprinkle holy water and recite chants to delete calender items which are themselves imported into your facebook as part of some agreement you didn't even realize you were authorzing.

At any rate it would seem that the iDevice Calenders App does NOT have sufficient priviledge to actually delete facebook calender items.

To remove an unwanted item from iCal that had no 'Edit' link and that was originally created by accepting a confirmation via email from an outside calendar source (Genbook):

  1. Open iCal on device (iPhone or iPad)
  2. Find and select the item
  3. When the details appear to the right of the selected item there are three options at the bottom (without scrolling down). They are: Accept | Maybe | Decline. Select Decline and the item should disappear.

I hope this is of use to someone.

Variaton of the problem:

Ok, sorry, but I have to add a variation of this problem and hopefully someone can help...

I just noticed that on the calendar, my birthday is showing twice. Once for the correct day and the other a day later which may or may not have come from some other caledar during a phone upgrade. Not sure. For example, let's randomly pick a date and say my birthday is on April 3rd - the calendar shows it as an all day appointment on April 3rd, but I also see one for my birthday on April 4th the next day. When I go to that one and press on it, it takes me to my iPhone profile instead of a page where I can edit/delete that appointment. When I scroll down on my profile, it shows my real birthday and under it grayed out, the other one. I can't click the one that's grayed out to delete it... and if I pick the correct one and try to delete that, when I click delete it just closes the whole thing and I'm back to my home screen... and both items remain in the calendar. It's driving me NUTS.

So, I KNOW when my birthday is - I don't need either the correct reminder or the false one. How can I delete these?? Again, when I click either one all it does is take me to my profile and not an editable page - and for that matter, how do I delete that second entry with the incorrect birthday in my profile that's grayed out?

Sorry if that hijacked a bit, but I figured since the OP's issue was resolved this would be ok I hope. Thanks.

In regards to deleting events from iCalender, specifically .ics files...I just spent a few hours reading over advice and searching for an answer.

I think I found a simple soultion.

1. Type in name of event you want removed under search button on iPhone, ie. "Meeting at noon"

2. Under search field, locate email where .ics file was sent from.

3. Click on original email.

4. Delete email.

This seems too simple but it works for me!

This worked for me for deleting an ineditable Calendar event:

1. Select the problem event in your iPhone calendar

2. On the resulting screen, select the "Calendar" option

3. In the resulting list, select any calendar from the "ON MY IPHONE" category

4. Select "Back" in the upper left corner

5. Select "Day" in the upper left corner (or whatever is in the upper left corner to back out of the event)

6. Select the event again -- the "Edit" option should now be in the upper right corner (with the subsequent "Delete" option).

Worked for me, as mentioned -- hope it does for you as well.

Iv read many comments were people can't delete events in there calendar myself included and Iv tried many times the way it was suppose to be done with no luck....why is this....But I have found a way that works so tap the date of the event then edit like your suppose to but now under event title tap it then back space the letters till there all gone then tap done..Then your going to be asked to save changes tap yes and there you go event is gone ....

I think I might actually have an easier solution that I just figured out. Tap on the event on your iPad calendar that was imported from another calendar, i.e. Outlook. A small window shoud open that does not have an edit option. Tap the "Calendar" line in that window. Then move the item to your "icloud or Home" calendar by tapping it to select that calendar. Then hit "back" in the top left corner. The item is now on your iCloud or Home calendar and the edit option appears in the top right corner. Select Edit then scroll to the bottom and delet the event.
