VMWare ESXi 5.1 on Mac Pro, which HBA card ?

Hello,

I'm searching for a compatibility list of Fiber Channel card on Mac Pro 5,1 for a VMWare ESXi 5,1 operating System. Does the Mac Pro accept any of hardware product if they are VMWare supported ?

VMWare support ESXi 5.1 + on the Mac Pro 5,1 but don't support the Apple Fiber card.

My goal is to have 2 mac pro with ESXi installed on, and to have a cluster with High Availability for the Mac OS X 10.8 server's virtual machine.

I want to use an alternate storage solution than the Promise because it is not supported by VMWare. It's mean that I will probably use a Fujitsu Eternus bay.

Hi Seb,

I'd look at an Atto 8Gb fibre channel card. The older 4Gb Atto cards aren't supported on 5.1 but the 8Gb ones are..

Hello beatle,

Thank you a lot for your reply. I found on the VMWare HCL that ATTO FC-82EN (dual port 8gb) are supported.

Are these card which are you talking about ?

Hi Seb,

That's the 2 port 8gb fibre card. I've got one in use on a PC based 5.1 install. The 81en and 84en are also supported (1 port and 4 port)

If you're based in the uk feel free to get in touch as I can probably get you a good quote on one of the cards.
