iPhone 4s and iOs 7.0 battery

My iPhone 5 is the same. It must be a bug in iOS7.

Switch the battery percentage meter on and then disconnect your charger 5 mins after it shows 100%

I had the same problem on my iPhone 5 and was wishing I could go back to iOS6. This site, however, saved me and my battery life is restored!

Also make sure airdrop is off (swipe up and turn off)

Um, that link has nothing whatsoever to do with a fix for the missing AC power indicator :-/

No problem I was so frustrated with the dramatic drop in battery life I know how you feel.

In addition to peter's excellent link (thanks peter!), to answer your question about the lightening bolt vs. plug....

With iOS 7 there is no longer a plug symbol. Only the lightening bolt which shows that you are hooked up to a power source. When the battery percentage says 100% it is fully charged....

You can't know that for sure Gail but equally, I don't find it a problem that there is no icon to show that the battery is fully charged.

If you have already bitten the bullet and gone to v7, be sure to update it to the latest v7.0.2 released yesterday. Not only does it solve the security issues with the lock screen, anecdotal evidence appears to indicate an improved battery performance.

In lieu of perusing the links offered above, beware of v7's new penchant for automatic app updating. Real battery gobbler as it keeps forever checking for any new version. Reminds me of little kids forever pestering "are we there yet???" on a classical family road trip....

I do know that for sure. This is the way it was designed. No more plug.
