Testing IR Sensor

Good day, I have an Imac Intel Duo Core that I recently purchased from apple and the remote is not working with front row.
I tried all the quick fixes i found in the forums and none worked 😟

I would like to know if there is a software that can test the iR sesnsor on my mac or if there are any other programs that can work with the remote.

Someone suggested iAlarm, any comments?

Have you tried changing the control's battery???

If you want to try the IR sensor with another application try downloading "Remote buddy" ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30015) and see if it responds. Really cool app.

If after replacing the battery and trying with another app, the remote still doesn't repond, I would recommend you to give apple a call.

I got a brand new mac mini a week ago - the remote
battery that came with it was already dead. Bought a
new battery, fitted it, now the remote works fine.

A little off topic but....

You had to buy a new battery for a brand new computer?!? ***? Did you at least call Apple to complain about this?

I know it's a very inexpensive item but geesh, where's the quality control?

You've probably sorted it by now but what I often do with the prolification of remote controls that we have in our front rooms is, if you have a camcorder or even a still camera you can first check that the remote is working i.e. sending a signal, by looking at the front of the remote via the screen on your camera. This also works quite well to find where the sóddin infra red signal is emitted from your phone, which can be quite a puzzle sometimes!
