They just ran the service check from apple's servers and found nothing.

the fan noise is so bad,

I expect to get a premium product when I pay 2500 euros for a laptop, not a miniature jet enclosed in a beautiful alu frame.........

I would definitely take it right back to your Apple Store. Obviously it is not right if it is unusable as it is !

If this Macbook Pro was running a high Fan from the beginning - I would not be so concerned.   Why now after 16 months?   It only means that something has changed, hardware or software, but a when my CPU is 10 - 30% is never used to kick the fan on.

I just want to solve the issue before this $5K investment burns up.

    Hi Bill,

    I bought a 13" Macbook Pro OS mavericks 10.9.2.

Everytime I play CSR racing, the jet engine start. It sounds loud enough for a take off

So did you finally get yours ready?

The genius's check out my macbook pro and after the test said it passed, well that did not satisfy me at all. It was suggested I do not leave open other programs, so I now only work with 1 or 2 programs open. When I run Photo Booth and record video is when the fan runs loud. In the passed I did not have this problem, now I do, as far as I am concerned something is wrong no matter what the test says. BTW when the fan makes lots of noise my machine also runs hotter and that's normal also,

Problem not solved, thanks for asking

I wish it was a process with 100%+ CPU ....that would be an explaination.  However, it will be on high no single process consuming much.

That being said it seems to happen been less often - for no obvious reson - which is weird.

    DUDES

For some month I was having the same problem

And I just solved it ! Somebody here had the answer so I give it to you.

Go to library / preferences and delete com.apple.finder.plist

    Then restart the finder

And there you go. At least for me. What an amazing day today. I feel like naking again . No noise . YEAH.

And of course don't use chrome, I loved it but yeah it make **** with the cpu + it's a 32 bit app wich is bad in the mac 64 environement .

    peace

Allright Sadly i do not have a solution for you as i am searching for one myself and I want to start by saying that i am not making any blows on mac

The problems i have had with my 2011 Macbook Pro over 2 years:

    • Loud fan
    • Screws Falling out
    • OS using 300% of cpu
    • Computer not going into sleep mode
    • VERY slow speeds
    • first degree burns due to overheating

BUT even with all this i do not have any hatred towards mac because the best thing about mac is the genius bar, even tho it is ironic in name as the majority of the people there will tell you there is no problem and send you off the pure fact you have a spot you can go and have a chance of finding help is amazing. Im sure you have been to the genius bar and i know this is a post from 2012 but if you happen to check the mac forums and read this I reccomend you first goto a genius bar and see what they say. if that does not work one of the big problems with mac is their ventilation these things heat up fast and dont cooldown at all due to their compact design they have neglected things such as good air ventilation which allows for easier transport BUT does not allow for prolonged use.

Depending on your Mac Computer your fan could have different problems so knowing that is key

The main problem is likely with a macbook

so if you are on your macbook currently i suggest u look at the joint for the computer as it is where your aircirculation is located, this design is the reason why the back half of ur mac is often burning hot after use. getting a custom case can greatly assist to fix this as it can allow more airflow for your computer.

Another large problem for overheating and fans is the Usage.

You will hear about people who havent had a problem with their mac in several years while you have many, this may be due to the amount of time and duration of each session with your mac.

Sadly mac computers arent built to last, if you left your computer in sleep mode for 2 months charging its battery would be severly shortened its fan would be much less efficent and the system would generally run slower, once this happens your mac will likely begin having problems as if out of nowhere.

Once my computer reached that point i decided I had two choices

    1. Attempt to Repair the mac even though there is no real cause other then age
    2. Buy a new computer

I decided to get an Asus G75vw and i was sad to lose my mac.

    TLDR:

      • Mac's are designed to break so you buy the latest model
      • Macbooks have bad Airventilation
      • Genius bar is stupid but helpful
      • The Forums do not often have sollutions no matter how old the forum is and how many people have the same problem
      • Macs are NOT designed for long sessions and/or gaming
      • THIS WAS NOT a strike against mac computers

    FOUND A(NOTHER) SOLUTION...Try it out!

I had the same experience and tried everything - in this forum and others.

I use a 2011 MBP 13" running on OSX Mavericks.

I soon figured out a pattern - that the loud and persisting fan noise starts whenever I use Chrome.

99% of the time, I use Safari - except for the rare occasions when I need foreign websites translated, I use Chrome.

I uninstalled Chrome (with CleanMyMac app).

And then, I cleared all caches, system logs etc with CleanMyMac.

You can, of course, do both the above without using CleanMyMac.

    Finally, I rebooted the MBP.

The machine has been running for the past 4 hours now - silently!

Take note that I assume this applies to Mac users running Chrome for web browsing.

So for those who have yet to succeed, and using Chrome on MBP - doesn't cost you to try it out.

    It worked for me.

If it doesn't work for you - you can always reinstall Chrome....for free ;-)

    All the best!

I had the same issue. I can't use the mac pro in meetings, the fan got so loud and the macbook burning hot.

I looked at the activity monitor and closed apps showing 90+ % cpu. On quitting dropbox app and chrome apps, the fan got silent. I have disabled dropbox for now and won't be hoarding chrome tabs.

I cannot believe it!! This worked for me!

I've had this issue since I installed a SSD disk about 12 months ago.

Been googling and reading forums about it ever since.

    Thanks a million, leongvictor!
