Aug 17, 2015 10:53 AM in response to i_Mikeby Lawrence Finch,If the 2 most recently used apps are occupying all of available RAM that would explain what you see, and why it isn't reported by everyone. I don't generally see this issue, but I also close unused Safari pages periodically. They can accumulate very fast.

Sep 28, 2015 7:24 PM in response to jamessmkeby augratin,It's obvious to all of us that Apple has simply removed multitasking from its mobile devices, in spite of what it might say on their web site.

What group or organization do you speak for?

Sep 28, 2015 8:26 PM in response to IdrisSeabrightby augratin,The group of people who have been very vocal about this situation in this very thread. After reading all 68 pages, I am not sure what other conclusion can be reached.

Nov 9, 2015 10:46 AM in response to rick7by I_H8_IOS7,Did anyone ever find a way to slow down the amount of refresh? I can't imagine it ever stopped completely. I run iBooks and maybe one other app at a time on my iPad, so I really doubt the memory problem. Is there anything I can do to mitigate this?

Nov 16, 2015 6:54 AM in response to sjmawerby rick7,Here it is 2 years later and I'm still using my ancient iPad 2 running iOS 7 and I've just gotten used (not happily) to this app reset problem. I've been thinking of upgrading the operating system to iOS 9. I know it could really slow things down but part of me wants to throw caution to the winds to see if it has any effect on our app reset problem. Has anyone else upgraded to iOS 9 on their iPad 2 or 3?
btw, my iPhone 5s running iOS 7 doesn't have the problem.

Nov 17, 2015 4:08 PM in response to rick7by PegasoneInc,I think this is by design, the limiting factor is available RAM. iOS is a 64 bit Unix-based OS, 1GB or even 2 GB of RAM on newer devices is hardly enough to prevent app refreshing, especially as memory paging is not supported.
-
Nov 17, 2015 4:57 PM in response to PegasoneIncby augratin,If so, then apple needs to remove the statement about multitasking from the promotional blurb on the web site, which promises that we can switch to other apps, and then return "exactly where we left off". Either make it work right, or stop saying that it works.

Nov 17, 2015 6:18 PM in response to PegasoneIncby rick7,The key issue we were all dealing with when we first started this thread two years ago with the release of iOS 7 was that the problem did not exist in 6.0. It started with the release of iOS 7 in September 2013. You mention that iOS is a 64-bit operating system; I'm curious if that was the case for iOS 6 as well. (I'm pretty sure my iPad 2 uses a 32-bit processor.)

Nov 17, 2015 10:00 PM in response to rick7by PegasoneInc,I agree with both of you. And maybe the constraints are similar on 32 bit systems with less RAM. On my device (iPhone 6 Plus) I see this occuring randomly and I did a test today with a 150MB game: it was reset only after I also launched Safari (I keep about 20 tabs open). It is very annoying not to know if you'll find your app how you left it. I wish I had the option not to launch another app unless I choose which suspended apps are safe to reset.

Nov 28, 2015 11:47 AM in response to sjmawerby su01,I have iphone 6 with plenty of memory, and using the latest iOS. Playing scrabble with my boyfriend a lot. Having the same issue as you guys describe here. Going back and forth between two apps it refreshes almost all the time.
Apple said that we can multi task when double tap the home button and go between two apps. Well it does not work. I tried different settings, like turning on and off the background refresh, but did nothing. Sometimes it works tho' but cannot figure it out why.
Maybe it needs to have a certain settings in order to work. Apple please check into this.

Nov 28, 2015 6:22 PM in response to su01by augratin,Maybe you should report that to the app developer and see what they say, or even request a refund from Apple on the app purchase since it doesn't seem to be stable. I have the same problem with Tapatalk (a forum reader) which often returns me to the forum's home page rather than the post I was reading if I try to switch away for a few moments and then come back to it. I keep reporting it to the Tapatalk developers in their discussion forum.

Feb 3, 2016 1:29 PM in response to sjmawerby mylitesite,So I found this very interesting. I moved away from Apple and went to a Windows phone in 2014. When I had my iPhone 4S running IOS 7 it kept refreshing my apps with each multitask app switch. It is extremely annoying as you need to often start back where you started after the refresh. Any way, fast forward to 2016, I am now back in the world of apple running IOS 9 on an iPhone 5 and wait for it, the app refreshing is still happening! Given the hundreds of replies on this thread and the fact that it has now been going for three years I cannot believe this is still an issue. Does anyone know of any actual fixes to the problem?
