Q: ios7 keeps refreshing apps after switching

I dont know if this is a new "feature", but it's really annoying.

If i have, say, an open webpage in Safari, and say i've scrolled down the page and zoomed in to a section i'm interested in, then switch to Mail to get some info, and then switch back to the webpage, the webpage will refresh and take me back to the top.

It's REALLY annoying.

Why can't it just stay where it was, like in ios6??

Is anyone else having this issue? Can anyone think of a fix?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2

Yes the iPad is still the best tablet but the iphone is not anymore the smart phone it was!... many others now are a lot better,... specially the Sony Xperia Z1 not only the phone but the accessories are incredible!..

I still have my ipad mini but to be honest a Mercedes without gas (aka good software) is not a mercedes.

i sincerly do not use anymore my ipad for month now.. it turn me crazy!... windows refreshing in Safari, App Refreshing in Multitasking, ... woooo too much ...

Of course if you are a mono-task user buy an ipad with ios7 otherwise you wont be able to use it yet!.

I miss Steve!... things are changed ...

I too am having this problem with the original ipad mini ever since updating to iOS 7.0.4 as well as the most annoying swipe/touch screen lag.  It is actually causing me, for the first time ever, to be very disappointed in an Apple product (hardware & software combined).  Please Apple, address this issue.  I don't dare upgrade my iPhone for fear of angry outbursts in public.

I had refreshes from ios6 on my ipad2 and ios7 made it worse.

I thought its a RAM issue, lack of it, but...reading all this, sounds lik eOS issue.

Its awfully irritating when you type web form in one safari tab, and switch to a next tab to read on data you need transfer in meaning to the for,. ad when you return, the form reloads, and you loose everything.....

makes you want to do someone in!=P=?

Athelas... the best way to resolve your safari tab problem is to download the BEST BROWSER for ipad!... the CHROME BROWSER FROM GOOGLE!!!... this one works perfectly....

Enjoy the GOOGLE APPS!... or switch to ANDROID!! ;-)

I read on another thread for a different issue that you can do a hard reset when it starts to do this and gets bogged down.  It did help me.  Now the safari tab doesn't *always* refresh and it does store my data from task to task.  Give it a try and see if it helps you?  Just press and hold the top button until the apple logo appears - doesn't affect anything and you won't lose any data.

    Hope it helps : )

Would not recommend Google browser...just my personal opinion that Google is in the business of mining it's users information (personal, search, habits and all else) and this makes me mostly uncomfortable and feels like an invasion of privacy.  But again, it's just my opinion and many millions of others will tell you they love Google.

Thanks, Wislez -- I actually wasn't aware that Chrome was available for the iPad.  Very glad to know that.  But I'm surprised to hear that Chrome is not affected by the app-refresh problem since this problem affects almost all my apps, not just my web browser.  The problem seems to be intrinsic to the iOS7 system, not really specific to Safari or web-browsing in general.

I'm not getting return emails from Apple Tech support as promised. That was a load of malarkey. I'm convinced there is nothing we as users can do to resolve this problem until ALL of the iSheep get angry about it and ALL contact tech support. All of us need to contact Tech Support once per day till they at least acknowledge the problem. We all need to contact CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS etc and let this cat out of the bag. It's going to take ALL of us to make this happen.

    Hi Hottpepper,

Well you are maybe right but i am not sure Apple is not doing it!... but if you want to be totally safe about privacy there is only one browser check in the store for the TOR BROWSER this will open a VPN and encrypt communication .. no IP, and more protection this is teh best browser for privacy.. if you need to access videos or something that is not accessible in your country (eg: China, Venezuela.. etc.. etc..) you can use the TOR BROWSER!!!! Check it out!

We're here to talk about how to resolve our problem with apps refreshing on iOS 7

A few notes from some of the above:

    • The browser does not matter. I use Dolphin and get the same issue. Chrome will work temporarily, but eventually the memory will catch up.
    • Hard reset works... for a little while. Depending upon your usage, you can get the issue back in under 10 minutes or as long as 24 hours. The memory tests I did before demonstrated this. So in a best case world, you would need to hard reset at least once a day, but in reality probably 4 times a day with active use.
    • The issue is not just in the browser, but in all apps. For instance, my biggest problems consist of Google Maps. If I turn to another app or turn off my screen, Google Maps resets. This makes using the phone as a GPS worthless unless it is plugged in (which is exactly what I did during my recent trip).

The ability to do more than one thing at a time is dead in iOS7. I did see it a bit in iOS6 in the browser, but nothing compared to iOS7. It is absolutely the memory management of iOS7 that is hogging resources and not releasing them, causing a cascading impact to all apps. If you do more than one thing at a time, and care about doing more than one thing at a time, than this impacts you.

Anyway, seeing the 7.1 discussions on here has made the decision for me. I'm done with Apple and will be getting my new phone (just been waiting for a good opportunitly when I'll be home for a few days to get the phone up to my specs). Good luck to everyone on here! I'll keep following along to see how things go.

When i proposed Google Chrome as Browser this only fix the Safari Tab switch problem .. not the App switch problem!...

This mean if you switch in Safari from tab to tab you will get Safari reload the page each time you switch from one tab to another.

In Google Chrome this works perfectly!....tab to tab switching do not reload the page.

Switch from APP to APP is another biG BIG issue!... and i dont see this fixed soon!..

I am slowly switching my stuffs to SONY XPERIA Z1 the best phone ever made.

This app switching problem is driving me berserk!  APPLE:  What is going on?  This is not an issue of third party developers implementing multi-tasking incorrectly because Safari refreshes too. So, if I'm on a website and go to 1Password for a password, when I come back to the Safari page, everything is reset. If I leave my newspaper, go to mail, and go back, my newspaper is shut down.

I'm going to figure out a way of re-loading iOS 6 because this problem is making my iPad and iPhone almost unusable.

    Hi Theodore Lewis,

The main problem is that you have no way to go back to iOS6... Apple stopped to sign the older iOS version (older than iOS7) on their server.

This mean that you can not downgrade to an older version of iOS .. of course they decide it almost 3 weeks after releasing the iOS7.

I think they have opted to stop signing the older version to be sure that the iphone and ipad users that upgraded to iOS7 and hated it was unable to downgrade to iOS6 has they saw thousands of users downgrading to iOS6 during the first week.

This was very bad for Apple, this wasnt a victory, this was the proof that the iOS7 was inferior in term of battery life, multitasking, speed and design compare to iOS6.

So they decide to stop signing the older version to keep trapped in iOS7 all the new innocent upgraders and to increase their statistics concercing the iOS switcher.. its just about number... but i am sure if today Apple decide to re-sign the older version we will see more than 50% of iOS users return to iOS6, specially those with iphone 4!! even those with iphone 4s.. Even the other users from iphone 5 and iphone 5s, ipads, mini ipad... need to go back to iOS6 due to the multitasking problem (app switcher) that turn almost all the ipad unusable.

So imagine the success of iOS7 if they remove the downgrade restriction.. i think 50% is still a very very low number of users that will go back to ios6.. sincerly i am sure that we are around 80 %to 85% that want and some that need to downgrade to ios6.

Now with this little infos you understand that this kind of restriction it is not a simple decision from Apple but is to cover all the mistakes in iOS7.

Apple will never recognize it.. do think about it.. iOS7.1 that is supposed to fix some problems is supposed to be released for the end of March 2014 imagine almost 7 months with these OS full of bugs.

But better they still dont talk about the Multitasking fix (app switching fix) so maybe in 7.1 we still keep this problem .. even the battery problem is not fixed in 7.1.... the only bug fix in iOS7.1 is the safari tab reload problem.

I wish you all the best...
