Apr 10, 2014 3:11 PM in response to sjmawerby jaypm55,Thanks for your response paulfromstone, I have the background app refresh turned on for the exact reason you are saying, to use location services. I'm using HEMA Exlporer and paid $50au for it to track our trip and give us the exact mileage. It's great for seeing where we are at any given time, but leaves a trail of where we've been plus other features which I haven't investigated due to my frustration with the refreshing. Sometimes it keeps tracking, then sometimes it doesn't and the iPad needs to calibrate everytime the app refreshes. WHen this happens the recording stops and needs to be restarted, which means I've lost klm on the distance. I though it was HEMAs problem but I really think it is this refresh issue with the iPad as, as others have said, you can be switching between apps and go back to one and it wants to restart, loosing all your hard entered data. At least my gmail app saves it as a draft so I can get the info back.

Apr 11, 2014 6:20 PM in response to sjmawerby lforbes,I really recommend people try the Settings - general -accessibility - reduce motion = on.
It stops all the zooming in and out and along with the auto brightness = off has reduced the refreshing on my safari tabs and apps. Still happens but far less now.

Apr 16, 2014 9:34 PM in response to lforbesby DebinLee,Thank you for your advise. reduce motion and auto brightness off really helps a little.
because of this bug, I am not so careful to use iphone as before, so I often drop it by accident and don't feel a thing. Now my iphone 5 is like a second hand stuff. I really hope it's seriously broken so I can buy another brand.
do you guys know the new brand in China called smartisan? I admire the CEO who is always bragging that it's he who is going to replace Jobs. Most people in China hate him but his fans including me are looking forward to his first phone to be released on May, 20.
Hopfully, it realy will replace iphone .*)

Apr 21, 2014 9:22 AM in response to sjmawerby iamtiredofallthis,It is 2014 and apparently Apple still hasn't figured out multitasking. Switching from one app to the next always crashes the app, causing a refresh. Reduced motion is off, and even if I only have two apps open, the second will always crash and dump whatever page or link I had up. It is like Alzheimer's for the iPad - you only live in the moment for what is in front of your eyes.

Apr 21, 2014 11:16 AM in response to iamtiredofallthisby ERSinclair,It certainly has crippled the way I was using my iPhone 4s. This is my lovely introduction to Apple products. I know that it CAN work better, Apple just isn't interested (apparently) in making my iOS device work like it used to.

Apr 21, 2014 11:54 PM in response to sjmawerby nymphe1410,Since iOS 7.1b5 and 7.1 I was quite happy with my iPhone 4S. I have had seldom app refresh and quite stable experience (except iMessage bug, in which the messages are delivered in 5-10 minutes delay). My autobrightness, background app refresh and motion settings are default.
However yesterday I noticed that my iPad 3 is still having the same problem and annoyed me a lot. I was playing tiny thief and looking for a walkthrough for couple of times in Safari. If I was quick the game was still where I left. However at least three times I had to replay the entire level/puzzle, which of course very annoying.
Maybe I shoud have updated the iPad through erease&restore in iTunes...I turned the auto brightness off, now we'll see.

Apr 22, 2014 6:46 AM in response to nymphe1410by ronfromtoronto,iBS 7.1 is junk. I hope it gets fixed with iOS 8 since 7 has been abandoned like an apps memory after you switch back into it.
Pick right up where you left off....yeah right apple!

Apr 22, 2014 7:00 AM in response to sjmawerby dfeivelson,I was almost going to upgrade from my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to the iPhone 5S and iPad Air, but after reading several posts on here, and then confirming for myself at an Apple Store that the same problem exists on even the latest iOS devices, I will not ever purchase a new iOS device until this is fixed and addressed.
I let Apple know via their feedback form that I, and many others will not be purchasing any new iOS devices until this is fixed, and I suggest everybody do the same.
I would put money on the fact that this issue will not be fixed until iOS 8, if at all.

Apr 22, 2014 10:32 AM in response to sjmawerby tedhtl,This is driving me crazy. I'm in the car now, trying to compare two cruise itineraries in two Safari tabs. I can't because they refresh every time I switch! This is also increasing my data usage.
Also, my iBooks close, PressReader closes, Kayak searches reset, PocketInformant freezes and refreshes the screen, Zappos loses my searches completely (they say save the searches before exiting the app - duh), and on and on.
I'm about done and am seriously thinking about grabbing a couple of cheap Android devices until things get fixed and then sell them. My iPads and iPhones are becoming useless.
Apple, fix this.

Apr 22, 2014 10:48 AM in response to tedhtlby k8atapple,Even though my ipad mini is practically brand new, I consider it to be just an expensive book reader with the added benefit of a few handy apps like facebook and mail, etc. I never consider doing anything serious or complex on it. My phone is even more useless. I definitely will be looking into a different brand of phone soon.

Apr 22, 2014 10:49 PM in response to sjmawerby afwilcox,Just adding my voice to the thread... not that I think it will help.
I have a 4s that I resisted upgrading until the SSL bug that came out earlier in the year. Boy do I regret it. To be honest I would have rather stopped doing secure transactions on my phone than have to deal with this refresh issue.
It has completely ruined my experience with the product. I was planning to buy a new phone in the next year if this isn't fixed I'll be switching from apple.

Apr 23, 2014 7:30 AM in response to sjmawerby lforbes,Anyone try 7.1.1 yet? Just noticed it came out. No mention of this. Bug. Wonder why all the others keep getting attention and this one is ignored? Who cares if the keyboard is delayed when you lose everything you type switching tabs in Safari

Apr 24, 2014 7:09 PM in response to lforbesby Mac Noty,I've just tried switching between a few apps by double pressing the off button and it seems to be okay now. If I close an app by single pressing then it refreshes.
