Q: ios7 keeps refreshing apps after switching

I dont know if this is a new "feature", but it's really annoying.

If i have, say, an open webpage in Safari, and say i've scrolled down the page and zoomed in to a section i'm interested in, then switch to Mail to get some info, and then switch back to the webpage, the webpage will refresh and take me back to the top.

It's REALLY annoying.

Why can't it just stay where it was, like in ios6??

Is anyone else having this issue? Can anyone think of a fix?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2

Wow, I didn't expect 58 pages of posts about this. Just adding my little story here. I started experiencing the same issue on my iPhone 4S 64GB sometime recently. I'm not sure if it coincided with iOS 7 or one of it's updates. As everyone has stated, it was extremely frustrating. Wiped the device & settings, cleared up as much space as possible, etc, nothing worked. Switching out of an app, as a rule, meant that app would die.

I switched to an iPhone 5 16GB and it's no longer happening. I'm inclined to believe that points to an issue with the hardware, or rather, how the software interacts with that hardware as opposed to a different type. I didn't read all 58 pages so I'm curious if someone has compiled a master list of all the devices this is affecting. Is it just pre-iPhone 5/iPad 3 devices?

No. People with iPad Air/5S too are affected despite of 1GB RAM. There is actually a thread that's even longer than this, 118 pages or something and it is regarding low memory, the same this one is about.

Safari is not listed in the background refresh list.

I have been following this thread for a while, but have not chimed in yet.

    Is it just pre-iPhone 5/iPad 3 devices?

Mersh, no, I have been experiencing the problem ever since updating to iOS 7 on my The New iPad (3rd gen; 64GB). I agree that it's very frustrating. My chief problem is with the facebook app: I can scroll through my news feed extensively, and as long as I don't switch apps, I can come back later and continue just fine. But if I briefly switch to any other app and return, then the facebook app refreshes and I'm all the way back to the top. Horrible.

I find it sad and disappointing that this bug has continued for so long.

It is more like a feature when you switch from an app and the running up front app will refresh itself.

Give Apple some feedback on that  https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

A feature that doesn't let you multitask? It's a bug.

And second it doesn't refresh. It opens all over again.

Hi, I appreciate this thread—I've been experiencing this same problem since updating to iOS7. It's definitely annoying but I guess I just figured dealing with it would be easier than, well, what's gone on in these 59 pages of replies since October of 2013!

However, I just recently subscribed to iTunes Match and there's a problem with the cache so I was wondering if these issues might be related. In a nutshell, when you stream your music via iTunes Match the songs are cached to the point where it takes up all the available storage on the iPhone. For example, the iPhone's free space can go from 8gb to zero in just a couple hours of streaming. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any consistent, easy way to free that space other than to reset.

Could these be related to a single memory issue?

This thread has nothing to do with iPhone storage. It's regarding RAM which is falling short in iOS 7 and as a result apps don't suspend properly in the background.

On a side note, if it makes you feel any better, I haven't subscribed to iTunes Match and yet face this issue.

Okay people. It's getting weirder. Maybe you can try it too and see what happens.

So, I'm on my iPad 2, latest version and I'm going from app to app when all of a sudden I realized the apps have not refreshed for some time. I look at my iPad and I notice that I'm holding it upside down. Okay, I don't think that is what helped but let me explain.

I'm holding the iPad horizontally and it is working fine. I switch to Vertical and all the apps begin refreshing when I go from one to the next. I then, move it back to upside down horizontal and they all refresh again, but as I go from one app to the next and to the next for a few minutes, none of them were refreshing. I switch back to vertical and again they all refresh. I switch to horizontal right side up and they all refresh and continue working correctly.

I'm no techie, but I wonder if this is what is causing the apps to reload. You will have to do the little experiment for yourself to see if it actually works.

But what I did notice was this and this was the weird part.

Say, I was holding it horizontally, and switched my iPad to vertical and then I double-click the home bar to see all Open Apps. Well, before I click them, or right as I click them they briefly (I mean millisecondly) refresh to the last, LAST viewed page and then quickly refresh to sometimes, the opening screen on the app or the page/ area/ section I was just on. I found this weird that my second previous page/area that I was working on would appear first and then switch quickly to the latest one. I think therein lies another problem.

So, my final solution, I locked my iPad horizontally and so far I can switch in and out of apps without the pages refreshing constantly. I can work again! It's weird. I don't know. Try it and I'd love to hear your (kind and polite) responses! Thanks.

Well that was short lived. It just started refreshing again. UGH!!

Well, it seems to work as long as I don't open any new apps. When I go to the home screen to open a new app, they all refresh again. After opening them all up, they stop refreshing. On top of it, I stopped using Safari as my Internet browser.

Experiencing the same problem here, I was reading through this discussion and thought it would have 10 pages max, but found out it has almost 60! Wow, if this isn't something Apple is fixing.. they're not hearing the sound of their customers..

I experience this problem with every single app I use, from dropbox(which is highly frustrating if I'm deep into my document structure and have to navigate all the way back into it to check a detail..), to chrome, to newspaper apps, Spotify, iBooks, gmail, trello, evernote, youtube, mindjet, maps, basecamp, netflix.. etc. etc.

Seen that the latest post was 5 days ago I don't think there has been a solution yet..? So I just wanted to add my voice, to vouch for one!

Did some research and no fix is available...

This website highlights the problem and some solutions, however they weren't permanent ones.

Add one more user here. This problem specifically began after I updated to ios7. I was still on the old os because I preferred the old Google Maps, the older animations and fonts, and the previous display of the apps and such. But more and more of my apps started requiring that I upgrade to the newer os. So in a way I was forced to take the plunge and upgrade.

Worst. Move. Ever. I KNEW I should have just stuck to my guns and held out on updating. Now I'm stuck with the same issue as most of you: switching between apps causes previous apps you switched from to refresh. Absolutely ridiculous. And utterly pathetic that this issue has gone on for so long.

    Add another user...

My story...   Iphone4 16 GB... Always had less than a gig or storage available and never had an issue... Last software iOS 4... Never upgraded because my first update 2 years ago lost every bin and apple support managed to corrupt my backup save data and I lost EVERYTHING!

I Only updated because as a previous post said apps wouldn't work on the older version of iOS I was running :-/

Since update my phone ***, I hate it and have been having every issue explained in this thread...

i Will never use another apple device, I hope apple reads that they lost a user... My screen lags so bad now I can type full words before they show up!

im done apple!  Hope you are happy...
