Q: ios7 keeps refreshing apps after switching

I dont know if this is a new "feature", but it's really annoying.

If i have, say, an open webpage in Safari, and say i've scrolled down the page and zoomed in to a section i'm interested in, then switch to Mail to get some info, and then switch back to the webpage, the webpage will refresh and take me back to the top.

It's REALLY annoying.

Why can't it just stay where it was, like in ios6??

Is anyone else having this issue? Can anyone think of a fix?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2

I have just write a complaint on that page. I join to the huge group of affected users. I cannot believe how Apple can avoid it.... It seems that Apple do not care about their customers..

I have a iPhone 4s 16Gb which worked almost perfectly before updating to iOS7.

Hate to say it, and this will probably get deleted, but this is what happens when a brilliant and customer experience centered Steve Jobs passes away, and the position is taken by a flaming butt pirate.

If the refresh issue was addressed, it would make the iOS experience a WHOLE lot better, but ever since Tim Cook's leadership, the software has been slowly and steadily going downhill in other areas as well.

For example; the spelling AutoCorrect used to actually type in the words and punctuation that I meant to type, but now more often than not I find myself cursing at my iPhone because it puts the wrong words and punctuation.

Those who say the refresh issue is because there is less RAM in the older iOS devices is rubbish... I have been an iPhone user since the very first iteration and never remember such horrible app refreshes until iOS 7.  It is sloppy and poorly written software, period.

The fact that Apple has not even acknowledged this major step backwards makes me hate them even more.

I will probably stick with the iPhone just because I have so much invested in iTunes and accrssories, but if I did not ,I would definitely have a Samsung Galaxy by now.

Why do you think it will be deleted? Posts are not deleted for comments Apple disagrees with; they are deleted if the are abusive, off topic, and a few other reasons listed in the TOU. While I don't agree with you, I don't see anything that violates TOU in your post, except possibly speculation. But that's a fine line.

I totally agree with you dfeivelson. Since the great Steve Jobs (RIP) left the company, Apple has got worse in many ways. One of most important pillars of his concept of what Apple must be, was the user experience. The best user experience, everything working perfectly, with the best efficiency, and taking very in mind the feedback of the users. All of that has gone, it looks like Apple just think about marketing and sales... I used to love Apple and its products, but nowadays, I am not sure... I do not know if my next smartphone will be the iPhone 6 or a Samsung Galaxy....

What do you think we can do? Maybe posting and linking this post in many social networks? Maybe sending complains to Apple (I already did it)?

Yes, I've submitted my negative refresh complaints to Apple's feedback page numerous times as well, but that seems to be about as useless as iOS 7's "multitasking."

I think posting a link to this thread and a brief explanation of how bad the problem is on major media outlets via Facebook and Twitter is a great idea, however the best way to let then know they suck is with your wallet... don't buy their products anymore.

I still have a 4S because I have several very expensive audio/video entertainment systems in my vehicles and boat that use the 30pin dock connector, and they will not accommodate the form factor or playback video from the iPhone 5 and 5S (even with the use of the 30pin to lightning adapter).

These companies don't care about us at all.  95% of the populace more than likely doesn't know any better or how to go about voicing their discontent.  Another example I dealt with yesterday was with dyson.  A seemingly $5-10 clip broke that holds the canister to the main unit.  I called dyson customer service (had the $600 machine 13 months) and she said I probably couldn't handle replacing the clip on my own... I told her I have built houses and rebuilt engines!  Then I was told they don't sell just the clip but have to buy a much larger component for $120 and since the clip is a wear and tear item... No waranty!  Needless to say I didn't buy it, 30 min searching I found it cheaper.

I Tried to like the iPhone but have had nothing but issues.  The difficulties with connectivity, not to mention apple support messing things up in the beginning by corrupting/deleting backups.  This new update has completely turned me off to the point where I can't tolerate it anymore.  It is nice to see people posting... Hopefully Apple steps up their game...

And it's not just iOS that's getting worse... iPhoto and iMovie on my mac are getting less and less functional and less and less intuitive with each and every update.  I find myself having to go to Google and YouTube just to learn how to do simple functions in both programs... it's absolutely ridiculous.

Apple used to make products and software that "just worked," and worked intuitively so anyone could use them... now, not so much.

Apple, if your products and software make your users want to curse and throw their iPhone across the room... you're doing it wrong!

Still having this issue with my iPad Mini.  I can't believe they haven't released a fix or even acknowledged there's a problem!  I paid hundreds of dollars for this thing, and then they FORCED me to upgrade to iOS 7 by making it impossible to do an iCloud restore without automatically updating.

Having the same problem but I don't see why Apple would fix it. Good old planned obsolescence technique.

Just stopping by to note that this problem has been happening to me with iOS7 the entire time since the upgrade on my iPad 2, and the entire time I've had my iPhone 5c. I am on the most recent updates. I have always had auto-brightness off and reduce motion on. I have a lot of extra memory free on both devices and close my apps frequently. I have done hard resets and restores several times, no help. Don't remember having any such problems with my old iPhone 4.

At first, it was most apparent within Safari with tabs refreshing, although if I go back and forth between the same two tabs, I am able to save my work usually. Later, apps like Twitter and Facebook would refresh every time I left the app to check something else. I manage to save my place from time to time by clicking on a link within the app and leaving it there while I check another app, but this only keeps the place for about ten minutes, and then all is lost and I'm back at the beginning. Although I am not using my devices for work, it is still extremely frustrating to lose your place in a timeline or lose the post you have spent some time writing. Anything serious I had to write or do, I saved for the computer. I realized how much this could become a serious problem this summer when trying to use my phone to navigate on Google Maps, and it would refresh if I answered a text, and I would lose my route entirely. It has been routine for me to copy any work I've done before leaving any app to ensure it doesn't get lost. I always thought this was planned by Apple to save memory so I rolled with it, but recently got so annoyed I started looking and found you all here.

I originally bought my iPad as a second "computer" to let my husband use our main laptop for his work and gaming, but at this point I'm willing to wait to use the computer when he goes to bed because I can't get anything much done on my iPad besides reading. That defeats the purpose of having it really. I came here for answers and hope that perhaps iOS8 would fix this, but it doesn't appear to be the case. I will be leaving feedback with Apple and will call as well. I have no idea how this has gone on so long. Everyone I know with any iOS device has this problem, but didn't realize it was a problem until I asked them, so I believe this issue is much more widespread than reported.

I'm sure it won't make a difference, but I'm chiming in as another iPad 2 user experiencing this problem. It's gotten to the point that even Pandora restarts which is completely frustrating when I'm trying to go back to see what song I'm hearing (Locking my iPad to see the info has also stopped working). But the worst is switching between Google Drive and Mail when I'm working.

It's not a memory issue for me.

LOL this thread is awesome!  I'm sorry to say that I truely think apple doesn't care about its customer base anymore.  I am actually more sad because when I finally switch to LG or samsung the cases available are not as cool as those available for the iPhones.  Big fan of element cases and they focus 90% on apple products and after I get my new phone I won't be able to get quality element cases.  Sorry apple I'm done.  How sad is it when people are more sad about quality accessory cases than the quality of the phones available?  I hope someone important at apple actually reads each post and realizes what is happening.
