same problem here. i cannot remove music but one-by-one, which is no option given the fact i have 7000 tracks on my phone.

in order to keep my music library up to date, i have to restore my iphone. every single time.

I just started having this problem and it is just before sending me over the edge. Some songs that I don't want on my phone have magically appeared and I can't get them to go away. I've tried deleting them from the phone using both the swipe method and the delete all music method, and I have connected my phone to iTunes and deleted all the music from my phone. But they're still there. This is beyond frustrating and I don't recall having these problems with iOS 6. Why does iOS 7 hate us so?

natefrawley you are a genius I never even noticed the edit button. This is much easier than the stupid swipe each song. What if you have 400 songs downloaded. ****!!!

Thank you so much for posting that

the work-around-fix is to download the song you're trying to delete, then it will let you delete after it's "downloaded". Its a bug; if the album name is too long it will not let you swipe left to delete. So annoying but still better than that android garbage lol

TThere is a bug, but who wants to delete every individual song anyway.

Go to settings, general, usage, and music look above it and you will see edit. Touch edit and it will let you delete all the music that has been downloaded.

...and you must repeat this step each and every time you have "all music" turned on and it shuffles to a song that cannot be deleted...really alexjtodd???  i've heard of workarounds but that is ridiculous!!!  it's still the smartest phone out there no lie.

Are you okay? It seema as if you don't understand how to use the phone. If you are using icloud for music then all you have to do is turn off iTunes Match. The music in the cloud isn't taking up space just what has been downloaded. The easiest way to delete these songs is to do what I said above. You can slide each individual song to delete but it doesnt always work and takes a long time. Do you understand this now? No one said iPhone wasn't the best phone on the market. I only use apple products.

what makes me not ok is that certain songs cannot be deleted unless you do a RIDICULOUS workaround.  And I said it is the best phone because it is.  i am not deleting my entire library every time I can't delete certain individual songs (over 100)  And what ***** is these songs are being downloaded to my phone from the cloud without my knowledge and it's taking up precious space!  We Still do not have a good solution.

I have the same problem iphone 5, I've already done the following:

    1. turned on match, the songs were already downloaded, went back and turned off match and when I try to delete the song, I'm not given the option to swipe.

    2. turned off play music over wifi, new songs 'appeared' on my phone.

    3. some songs still won't delete.

How do I fix this. I can't delete the songs from iTunes via the phone music either.

    thanks

it's actually not that hard, just ridiculous. Just tap the cloud icon next to the song that you can't delete. this will "re-download" to your device. Then you will be able to swipe left to delete.

    Cheers!

I Went to the Apple store a few months ago with this problem. They told me it was a bug they had never noticed. If you follow the directions someone posted to clear the music through usage, that will work.  However, if you STREAM any of your iCloud music it will automatically save and be un-deleteable unless you clear everything out again....totally defeating the purpose of streaming.

    Apple, please fix with ios8!!!

I have spent 45 minutes now (Grrrrr Apple) trying to delete two "free" songs from U2 on my iPhone.

I have tried the instructions (via Google) from 4 different sites. I have hidden and unhidden and downloaded and deleted and screamed.

I cannot get two "free" U2 songs to go away from my iPhone 5S iOS 7.1.2

They do not appear in my iMac iTunes. I have tried "Menu > Devices > Transfer Purchases..." but they don't show up in iTunes on my iMac to be deleted.

"Downloads" in iTunes store on my iPhone shows NO DOWNLOADS available.

Any ideas how to get rid of the two U2 songs in my iPhone (but not anywhere else) ?

UPDATE: After waiting a while (20 mins?) the songs finally disappeared from my iPhone. During that time I restarted Music app several times, and re-sync'ed with my iMac iTunes several times.

    What a pain.

I am new to the problem but have just downloaded iOS8 and my iPhone 5S shows I am 16 GB over my 32G phone capacity - this was a simple, straightforward way to delete enough music to unfreeze my phone.  Thank you!
