Email using too much memory

My email usage is at 548mb although I've deleted most of the emails. When I receive and delete emails, it still adds to the total usage. I'm using an email account on a pop3server from my PC. What can I do to dump the memory and prevent this from happening again. Many thanks.

I had this same problem and spent a ton of time with online apple chat and many other sources, but I finally figured it out! Go to your settings, scroll down and click on "Mail". Delete all email accounts you have. Push the home button until you are on your home screen. Click on settings again, and then click on "iCloud" and scroll to the bottom and select "Sign Out". Push the home button until you are back on your home screen. Finally, delete the mail app, I mean the actual icon. You do this by holding your finger on the mail icon for a few seconds. When you remove your finger you will see an x in the left hand corner. Click this x. Your phone will ask you if you are sure you want to do this as it will delete all data stored on the app. Select "remove". Then restart your phone. When you turn your phone back on you will see your mail is no longer taking up any data. Now go to the app store and reinstall your mail app. Just type in "mail" and it will be the second option. Then you can click on this app icon and it will prompt you to log into your email accounts. You can choose to sign in to your iCloud this way, or from the settings menu. If you would like to sign into iCloud from settings simply clock on "iCloud" again. You will be prompted to sign in to your iCloud account and set your settings. If you need to add more than one email account, go to settings and click on "mail". Then click on "accounts". Next click on "add account" and proceed from there.

It seriously took me months to figure this out, so I really hope this helps somebody!!

I suspect this problem only occurs with POP accounts. In any case, as a workaround I create a second email account that is identical to my "real" email account in all respects except for its name. Then I delete the "second" account and voila!!! ... The email space is released.

Deleting and recreating the "real" account also works.

This problem has been around at least since IOS 6. I sure wish Apple would fix it.....

What about when you remove your email account entirely, and it doesn't reduce the storage it;'s taking up? Same thing with one of the 3 app's I use... I deleted it and it's 200 MG didn't go away. Ihave 8 GB phone and about 1 GB of photos, vids etc. No music. No videos. Nothing other than 100 mb of stuff from messages. But I have almost no storage left. 8 minus 1 doesn't equal zero... Like I said I have 3 App total and I deleted the main one.

HI there 🙂

There are two solutions now:

First, if you've got your iOS updated (i.e iOS10) you can finally uninstall email from your phone and that will free up your space.

Second, delete all the emails from settings and set it up all again (I don't mean to say restore the phone, basically, restore your email).

It will work 🙂

Hi there all. I found that this worked for me.

I tried switching if the phone and other methods. This is what worked for me.

1) delete the email acount from your phone in settings. If its you icloud email taking up space then youll have to manualy delete the emails from your phone

2) use an app on the istore that clears cache memory. I used Memory & Disk Scanner Pro - Check System Information by Phan Minh Nhut

https://appsto.re/za/Lzt72.i It has a traill period that alows you to use it a few times. I used it once and then deleted it afterward. My emails took up 1.05 gb and after i used the app it cleared it.

3) i suggest using an app like gmail or yahoo to use for emails. It takes a lot less space.
