Your non-iPhone Inbox where, and what type of email account - Exchange, IMAP, or POP?

If a POP account, a POP account is not kept synchronized with the server.

I have this problem as well. I can see email on the iPhone. I open Outlook on my PC and it downloads and deletes all the email from the server. Then I look on my phone, and all the email still shows on it... I pull the email down on the screen to cause an email update. It does, and says "updated just now". However, it still shows the emails that no longer exist on the server. I login using the web to the email server on the PC and ensure that the inbox is empty. It is.

Then after some period of time, 3 or 4 minutes, iPhone magically realizes that those emails are no longer on the server and stops showing them. So, on my phone, after some minutes, the problem corrects itself.

This did not happen with previous iOS... For some reason the iPhone "says" it is updating the inbox on the phone to match the server, but it really isn't...

Same problem - using Outlook 2010 with a POP account. My iPhone 5 os7 shows over 7000 emails in the inbox, however when I literally go to the inbox, there are only a few emails there.

This is driving me crazy and no one seems to be able to tell me how to correct this.

I have contacted my carrier (T-Mobile) and they said they could not help me.

I use Comcast and have the settings to only keep mail for a few days.

I stopped in at the Apple store and again - no help there.

Perhaps we have someone on this forum who is really smart!!!

mylan,

The fact that this started only a few weeks ago, which was the same for me, makes me sure it is a bug in the new iOS. Thus, there probably will not be a fix until Apple gets around to fixing it.

Allan has a point in that a POP account works differently. If yours was using POP protocol, maybe Apple tried fixing something with it and ended up breaking something else... But yes, you usually want IMAP since it is designed to work like we are discussing with both a phone and Outlook.

For me, my iPhone eventually updates and shows the inbox correctly.

You can try a couple of things...

Go to settings and turn off the email account, then turn it back on... See if it updates. or maybe Reboot your phone. Are you using 7.0.4? if not, you might try upgrading. If so, you might try downgrading to previous versions of iOS. Don't know if that is possible...

Mylan,

If you aren't, you will need to change your phone to use the IMAP protocol, as Allan mentioned, to get what you want... If you are switching protocols from POP to IMAP, you might have to manually clean out your phone inbox, before it starts working.

However, the original problem I mentioned where the inbox is not updated EVEN using IMAP still exists and has only existed since the last iOS update... To restate: emails in the inbox on the phone still show up even after Outlook on the PC has removed them from the mail server. This is proven by looking at the mail server using the web interface to ensure the emails really are not in the in box.

However, I have noticed one thing. The email list on the phone will update as soon as a new email shows up in the inbox.

That is, there are emails in the inbox and the phone shows them. The emails are removed from the inbox using Outlook or web interface. The emails still show on the phone even though it says "updated now". Pulling down on the inbox making it refresh several times does nothing. Then a new email arrives in the inbox and the phone updates properly showing only the new email.

Additionally, going to the email account settings on the iPhone, turning some things off and on, and then going back to the inbox will also cause it to finally correctly refresh.
