Q: error 3194

If your iPhone is hacked or jailbroken, you can not upgrade/update. And you will find no help here, read the forum conditions.

Do you already have iOS7.0 on your iPhone4?

If not you should do the upgrade through iTunes, remember the iOS7 is more than 1 GB, thus it is a serious download, and your iPhone must have at least 1.2GB free space (it is implemented, then checked and then the old one is deleted).

If you have already iOS7 you can do the update either through iTunes or directly on the iPhone.

If you have iOS4..  on the iPhone you must connect to iTunes and you can not update on the iPhone.

In the case that you have not iOS7 on the iPhone 4 be aware that iOS7 is slowing down your iPhone 4 considerably, and maybe you should wait untill a later update (not this one 7.02) is available.

Now back to your 3194 error:

a. this happens when you downloaded the iOS directly and chose the wrong version. delete that iOS from your computer and let iTunes download the correct version ( ˜/Library/iTunes/iPhoneSoftwareUpdates ).

Good, that it did not work, because effectively that makes your phone look like a jailbreak. Then iTunes will not download the update.

Now you have to make some "repair":

1. uninstall TinyUmbrella, delete the downloaded TinyUmbrella file and the others you downloaded (if any), empty the Trash.

2. In Finder GO menu GoTo folder /private/etc/

locate the hosts file (it just says "hosts" no extension)

copy this file to the desktop

3. On the desktop open the file "hosts" with Textedit, then you will see a number of lines with the # sign before it and some lines that haven't. Delete all lines without the # but for these:

127.0.0.1          localhost

255.255.255.255          broadcasthost

::1             localhost

fe80::1%lo0          localhost

leave all lines with #

after this there are only the # lines and the 4 lines above

close textedit saving the file.

Leave it on the desktop and copy it to the original in /private/etc/

it asks for your password, then restart the computer.

     iTunes will now be free again to download the update for your iPhone.

I think that the download was corrupted (it is a large file, about 1.2GB, you need a a good internet connection). So if you want to try again, you have to delete the .ipsw file in

˜/Library/iTunes/iPhoneSoftwareUpdates/

Then iTunes has to redownload the file again, connect the iPhone with the cable and uncheck sync with WiFi.

1. So you cleaned the host file, pfff. That is OK. Did you restart the computer after cleaning the hosts file?

2. There is something in your iPhone that blocks it. Which iOS version do you have on the IPhone click in the iPhone Settings/general/software update: it displays the iOS and says whether or not there is an update.

Try creating a different user on your computer (with admin rights) or using a different computer. That error means there's something keeping your computer from accessing the server. It might have something to do with security software too.

You cannot restore to 6.0.1 because apple no longer supports that version. The only way you can restore your phone is by putting iOS7 on it. Anything else is not signed anymore and cannot be installed on the phone.
