My toddler pulled a key off my keyboard - how do I replace it?

I did this recently with my former 12" PowerBook and as camhabib says it's tricky but quite doable. It's almost certainly the same for the MacBook Pro - as far as I can tell, the PB and MBP keyboards are identical.

on this forum a few weeks ago someone said that you could take it to an Apple Store and they would reinstall it for free (and also that they keep a supply of keys on hand for lost keys.) Is there a local Apple Store nearby where you live?

I think since you're over seas you may have to send it back, but like mentioned above, they should do it for free.


From my understanding, you can just plug the key back on itself.

There is a small hinge on the right side, and a clip on the left side... connect the hinge back in, and press the key down to click in the key that was pulled off.

It's definitely possible to do yourself, just tricky. Grab a cup of coffee, a needle-nose, small screwdriver, and play around with it for a while.

I think your overreacting. Kids can get into allot of trouble at that age. I don't think they should be replaced just because they damage your computer.

well I disagree, we are going to replace ours and take her to the local apple store. They replace it if you have apple pro care AND give extra diapers!
