Game Center constantly asks for password, forgets login

After updating to iOS7 (and now iOS7.0.2), Game Center always pops up right after I open any game and asks me to log in. It prompts me for the password for my old Apple ID (which I haven't used in over a year and for which I cannot recover the password). When I type in my new Apple ID and password, they are rejected with a "Cannot log in to Game Server" message.

When this happens, I go to Settings > Game Center and put in my current Apple ID and password AGAIN. This temporarily solves the problem, but inevitably Game Center will pop up and ask me for my OLD Apple ID and password.

I am guessing that there is a preference file somewhere which is remembering and asking for my old Apple ID and password despite my best attempts to teach it the new one. How do I correct this problem?

I believe I have found the solution.

The answer seems to be that for GameCenter to keep you signed in, the device has to have Find My iPhone turned on through iCloud. Otherwise GameCenter assumes it's a shared device.

Steps:

1: You will need to sign into iCloud and turn on Find My iPhone/iPad in iCloud settings.

2. Open GameCenter settings and click on your Game Center Profile.

3. Sign in to Game Center (hopefully this is the LAST TIME!)

4. If you have 2-factor authentication turned on - click Edit Account Info->Security Settings and follow the instructions to verify your device.

For me, this took care of it...

Good luck!

Same here!

It always asks to login gamecenter when I open Hayday game. When i log in it gives a server error in the game. But when I log in from the settings/gamecenter it recognise my profile and does not ask for login a few times when i open hayday game. But then again, the process repeats.

I would like this issue resolved immediately, because I often need to switch the game to refresh the market of the others (Newspaper).

Thanks

@ekobres,

I hope that did somehow fix the problem for you. On the device on which I have the problem I have always been signed in to Find My iPhone, so that, I'm afraid, isn't a general solution. I've had an incident open with Apple support on this for over a month and all they can suggest is to wipe the device and set it up as new, which would mean thowing away all data stored by all apps. Some of those data might be restorable from the cloud, but certainly not all, so that, for me, is simply not an option. There's obviously some rubbish data hidden away in iOS somewhere that's causing this problem for quite a few people - I just wish Apple support would get serious about solving it instead of blindly firing the shotgun "cure all" of resetting the device...

Interesting - this definitely solved it for me. Night and day. Did you do step 4? Don't know whether it would work without that step - but I do know the offending device was showing "offline" while the problem was happening and re-enabling the device and then re-verifying it is what solved it. But not everyone has 2 factor turned on... You might give it a shot and see if that helps. I can see how GC might legitimately make you sign in for each game if the device itself is not actively associated with your iTunes account. You could also try disabling FMIP and try again. Better than wiping the device - which didn't work for me...

Talked with Apple Support and their suggestion was to do this:

1) Settings > iTunes & App Store > tap on your Apple ID > tap Sign Out, then Sign In again

2) Settings > Game Center > tap on your Apple ID > tap Sign Out, then Sign In again

Try your game. Should log you in. This worked for me and the support person said to call again if the problem continues for "deeper solutions".
