Unable to shutdown because mail is disrupting shutdown. The mail Quit option is also disabled.

Can someone help to shutdown my system smoothly?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu and shut Mail down from there.
