I find it so ironic that some have a problem with a single product (that may or may not be the manufacturer's fault - ie - use cheap cables and complain that they don't work with their expensive product, or a bug that only affects a handful of millions of users/owners), and then somehow translate that to mean that an entire company's product line is nothing but junk and are supposedly willing to dump $thousands in hardware because of one issue.
I particularly find the post that begins by harping on the iPhone 5s cable issue, then morphs to compalining about their AppleTV, MacMini Server, and MacBook - all supposedly having some kind of coordinated meltdown...
I have done my fair share of Apple-bashing over the years when they mess up (and any company, just like an individual human being) is going to make mistakes. The reality is - Apple makes far fewer mistakes than most in their industry. Can they be somewhat controling of their devices and software? Certainly - but that is also part of why their "stuff" tends to be less problematic overall. It is the price one pays.
And - as if I ever need a reminder about why I primarily live in/use an Apple "ecosystem" - I also carry around an ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Android-based tablet. I have had all sorts of issues, primarily software (though not all). Android is a "free-for-all" atmosphere - that opens doors to malicious software, to all sorts of conflicts in software, and in many ways is rather unstable and unreliable. And don't even start on the horrid memory management in Android... And as far as Windows is concerned - I am tasked with keeping several family members up-and-running - and they are hard-headed Windows users - who cannot seem to figure out that they should NOT click every window that pops up askign them to install garbage, or to open every single file that comes through email... I spend more than a half-hour or so, even on a realtively well-running Windows machine, and I am ready to run and bash my head into a brick wall. I have chased driver issues, connection issues, and all types of file corruption problems... DLL's and so much more. I am so ready to get back to my MacBook Pro.
Oh - and back a few months ago, I was in the closest Apple Store and one of the "friendly" Apple folks walked up to offer assistance. I said I was just in to look - they stayed for a moment. So I asked if they knew anything about the "not certified" issue with iPhone 5 and 5s. They were aware of it - said a handful of folks had come in with the issue - and they had replaced a few phones because of it. This person said that most cases were complaints regarding 3rd Party cables...
