iPad lock screen not working

I was playing with my friends iPad which has ios7 and disabled it and when he looked at it then the top part of the screen where there is the wifi or cellular logo and time and battery was there and the lock screen wallpaper was there but there was no slide to unlock and he couldn't turn it off or anything. He then said that it has happened before and it costs $75 to fix without a warranty so I just want to know if that's true or he's trying to steal $75 from me and if it's not true then how do u fix it?

Hi Nicholas|18225,

I have three options to fix your problem.

Option 1: Try to do a factory reset on the iPad, you will not lose anything - Just Hold the Lock and Home button together for 10 seconds till the screen goes blank. Then let go of the home button when it goes black. When the Apple logo appears let go of the lock screen and wait a few minutes for the device to reconnect. If you do not see a slide to unlock screen, just try swiping from the left side of the screen to the right side.

Option 2: - Only use this if the first option doesn't work. Firstly connect the iPad to your friend's iTunes account/computer. Allow a few minutes. Usually when a device is disabled, when connected to the main computer, the lock is removed. If this doesn't unlock the device you will need to go to iPad on the top right of the screen and click on iPad or it will be called "[Friend's name]'s iPad". You will need to click on "reset or restore" (I cannot remember what the button is called but it is a rest and erase button.) Then click on agree to all the terms and conditions - after you spend half of your life reading them! This restore will take anywhere from 30minutes to 2hours depending on the size of the device. It usually takes 45 minutes for a 16GB device to erase and reset. PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING.

Option 3 - If your friend isn't keen on this there is another option which is free - taking it to an Apple Store and getting a genius to assess it. Obviously they can fix it for free if it in warranty. If it is out of warranty they will charge you, but they will be able to tell you what the problem is any how it can be fixed.

Do not waste $75 - try these options first. Option 1 - you will not lose anything, option 2 - you will lose everything and option 3 - depends on what the genius says.

Thanks.
