DTS Encodes

I just bought a new laptop and Final Cut Studio for it. I couldn't help but notice the little DTS symbol on the side of the box. I've been using DVDSP 2 and Final Cut 3 or 4.5, so hopefully this DTS support on DVDSP 4 works. I know that Apack converts an audio file into an AC-3 (Dolby Digital), but does DVDSP 4 (or Apack) have a way to encode for DTS?

Or is that still handled by a third party application....? I don't have any DTS files or surround files to experiment with at the moment so I need some advice.

I also read in the archives that many people have had problems importing DTS files into DVDSP. Some resolved it by using the A2 track instead of A1.... sounds kind of qworky... also I read that people have .dts files that still need to be transferred to a .c?? has this been resolved in DVDSP 4?

Who do you have to F* to get a freakin DTS Disc that works?

Thanks for any help

Justin

Then do you know the workflow for getting a DTS mix on to a DVD through DVDSP?

which 3rd party applications work well, and which ones are able to compress a .dts file (Which apparently DVDSP doesn't accept) to the .cmt format (or.cpt, or whatever the extentions is that DVDSP needs)

I haven't recieved Final Cut Studio in the mail yet... otherwise I'd look this all up.

Hey Justin

would you be inclined to do encoding to DTS via hardware or software?

there are a few software applications that can transcode or encode DTS audio, and then embed the audio to a single stream.

there is also a few hardware solutions that can do it from a tape source much faster and with better quality.

here are some software:

i doubt you would be interested in hardware since they are relatively expensive 🙂

hope this helps you out!

You can have a look at the manual.

DTS Audio

DTS (Digital Theatre Systems) is an alternative format for surround audio.
DVD Studio Pro can import and use DTS audio files.
DVD Studio Pro supports DTS ES audio that can have up to 6.1 channels, as well as audio that uses a 96 kHz sample rate and a 24-bit sample size.

Important: All DTS audio imported into DVD Studio Pro must use the compacted file format, with a “.cpt” file extension.
