My iPad and iPod won't sync after the latest os update

I performed the latest updates on my iPad, iPod, and MacBook Pro and now I get them to sync.

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular (VZ), iOS 7

What happens when you try to sync?

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?

Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?

Do the songs play in iTunes?

Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

When I try to update the iPad and iPod, it starts to sync and it gets to step 3/5 and it shuts down.

I have synced successfully many times before the update, but not since.

Neither device has ever been synced to another device.

Yes, the books play in iTunes.

Yes, as far as I can tell everything is checked correctly.
