Whats wrong with my MacBook?

I have had some issues with my MacBook (Mid 2010) running slow and over the past few days I've been getting a black box appearing saying I need to shut down.

I am running Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 (Lion)

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
