Q: Cannot sync iPad post upgrade.

Since upgrading to iOS7 and iTunes 11.1 I cannot sync my iPad 2; it hangs on step 6. I also appear to have lost all of my iBooks documents from the iPad. The documents are all backed up, as is all of the rest of my content, but I would like to be able to get the iBooks documents back on the iPad. I have tried rebooting everything, deleting and reinstalling iBooks, resetting the iPad and running the sync diagnostics (results below; why it cannot find a USB or Firewire controller since the machine has both and works with both is beyond me) and restoring the iPad. Googling suggests a number of people are having similar problems with syncing to iDevices. The only other thing I have done recently is move the iTunes library to a new PC instead of my older Macbook Pro due to impending hard drive failure on the Mac, but that was a while back and the problems seem to start with iOS 7.

Any ideas?
