It usually means yo have more in the cell than is shown. Can be that there is a paragraph break that you don't see. Turn on Show invisibles in the view menu and what it might be. Or widen or highten the cells

Looking at your screen shot, I notice that the ⊞ character also appears in the header cells with a label beside it:
The label, "Pause:" would indicate that the character, in the original location from which the data was copied, was attached to a control to pause playback of the track.
Try clicking (not on this squared x) in one of the cells, clicking on it a secont time to plce the insertion point in the cell, then moving the insertion point to th end of the cell contents and pressing delete twice to delete the and the space before it.
If that sucessfully removes it, you should be able to use Find and Replace to delete the rest of those characters.
