I got a message from my mother today. She says.....
"Very frustrated with my iPhone map. I programmed an address and it went in great but it won't always talk to me. Don't know what I do. Sometimes she talked and sometimes she doesn't. Sometimes it's great, but I can't count on it. Any suggestions."
I don't use Maps in a car enough to answer her. Has anyone else encountered this and/or know of any solutions? Thanks, all.
I found that this happens with both my iphone 5S and my wife's 6S. It happens when we plug in the phone to the usb port in our car. It also has problems with the car bluetooth interface, but I can't see a pettern on this one.
This has been happening "at random" to me since I got my 5s about 2 years ago. In the course of a single trip it will work great for part of the leg, we'll stop for lunch and then it might or might not be working again! No settings changed.

Yes, I have this issue also. Ever since the latest Apple update 7.0.2. Read that if you turn on Airplane mode for 5 seconds then shut off, it will fix nav voice. It did work for me, but now my Bluetooth won't connect for handsfree talking.
Mine got solved automatically. Its weird and erratic. It's working now and I didn't do anything special to make it work. But that's no solution because it might as well stop working again. I think Apple needs to release an update to address this issue. Not everyone is affected, of course, but some really are.
For many of the issues that seem to come up after upgrading to iOS 7.0.x the solutions seems to be the following:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
This deletes all of your preference settings, returning them to the defaults. It will not erase any of your data or apps.

Voice won't work when your device is plugged in/charging...at least it doesn't for my iPhone 4S. As soon as I unplug, everything works again.
I have this question too. One day when texting, a ferocious loud static sound accompanied each letter 'click.' Tried Settings-->General-->Reset which fixed static sound, but seems now voice navigation is lost along with location services (despite location services being on). A very big boo.
That's not what I've experienced. I used to often drive to unknown locations with phone plugged in and voice navigation worked. In the last few days, however, voice recognition is on the blink. 😟

I got my voice directions to work on the Maps app again (on my iPhone 6) by touching the arrow that goes up & then to the right--on the left side of the address box at the very top of the Maps page (where u enter the address u're going to). That takes you to a page where u re-select that address AND finally you see a "start" button. Tap on START & the voice directions magically kick in! As it turned out, I just didn't remember how I got it to working the first time. 😉 Hope this helps....& hope it stays working for all of us!

Make sure Location Services are turned on. Without enabling location the iPhone can pull up a map from point A to point B but cannot give instructions without knowing your location along the route.
My location services are on. When I use the feature outside of the car, I can see and hear the directions. When I get in the car, I can only see the directions.
Also, I turned off the Bluetooth in the car, and the voice navigation began working. Turn on Bluetooth and no voice nav. I was able to use hands free phone call with Bluetooth on.
