Iphone 5: I updated software on my computer.

HI, I updated my iPhone 5 software on my computer but I do not know how to remove the badge reminder on the physical phone. Any suggestions?

Go into Settings>General>Software Update. See if after doing this it goes away.

No, it is stating that I need to connect to Wi-Fi. Ugh...

Well, connect to WiFi. The update has apparently downloaded to your phone. Since you've already updated, if you connect to WiFi, then go back to software update, it should detect this.
