iTunes Cloud Storage Confusion - I HATE THIS!!

Excuse my frustration with the new cloud storage of songs from iTunes.

My wife and daughter share the same itunes ID/account as mine because I want to manage purchases. We each have an iphone and are all running iOS7.0.2 (which has it's own issues, such as the sudden lack of bluetooth support to control iTunes from the lock screen on the iPhone 5 only). anyway...

Here's what's going on - I noticed in the latest version of iTunes for the iPhone that I see all kinds of music on my phone that I never put there. Songs my daughter would have on hers. My wife has songs on her phone that I normally would have on mine. It's really confusing. It seems that these songs are not really on our phones, but in the cloud somehow. Some of these songs were purchases, but some were just in my iTunes library from my mac. How did those get in the cloud? I never put them there.

I also clicked on one of the songs on my phone that are one of my daughters songs, and now iCloud has donwloaded that song into my phone. I want to delete it, but can't. I connected the phone to iTunes on my mac, let it sync, and that song does not show up in my iphone music library(on the phone or the mac) - I was going to try to look for it here so I can delete it, but no luck.

I guess my question is, how does this iCloud storage service work as it pertains to storing music to and from the iPhone and syncing to the Mac? I logged into my iCloud account on a browser, but there's nothing there about music that I have stored. I didn't know I had any music stored - there really should be a way to manage this from the web interface.

I also looked in the phone preferences for iCloud, and there's no option to sync music from iTunes. The only option I could find was in the iTunes preferences where you could view either all your music, which includes music from the cloud AND music that's really on your phone, or just whats really on your phone.

I should be able to have multiple devices on one iTunes ID and not have this issue.

How did iTunes get so complicated? I just want to play music. I can't even do that in my car anymore.

I too am having this issue. My phone is currently showing 21 songs & 6 videos on my phone that are no where to be found in the phone itself using itunes. yet when i click on them they start playing. I can not swipe to delete. It just wont delete. I do not have or have ever setup a itunes match account. Ive tried everything I know to delete these songs but it wont.

Has there been any success in figuring this out?

HI Brian,

iCloud with ONE person using the account can become confusing. With three people attempting to manage backups and storage is borderline insane. I respectfully would suggest you contact 1800MYAPPLE and ask to speak to someone to assist you with setting up icloud accounts for all participants. Even when having different apple id accounts you can still use one itunes account to better manage purchases.

Good luck friend.

I had the same problem and it took me a while to delete the songs I didn't want but it worked. Firs, make sure that Show All Music is on under settings. Then, go to Music and download the songs from ICloud that you DO NOT want in you Iphone. After the song is fully downloaded, swipe to the left and delete it. Go back to Settings, turn off Show All Music, go back to Music and the song should not be there no more. In summary, you have to download the music first from ICloud to be able to delete it from you Iphone. It sounds weird but it works.

This was driving me nuts also. But I had to assume the Apple guys (bless their little geek hearts) had thought of this, and had assumed that they made it so obvious that they didn't have to tell us where it is. All of the hints above tell how to stop showing iCloud music in iTunes. What we want to do is stop showing it on the iPhone. So... go to Settings > Music > Show All Music and TURN IT OFF. ("All music that has been downloaded or that is stored in iCloud will be shown.") They gave us the option. They just picked the wrong default setting. Even Apple isn't perfect. (Although **** near...)

Just in case this hasn't been resolved for everyone. I plugged into iTunes on the computer then went to iTunes Store. I clicked PURCHASED and found the music I wanted gone. I clicked the X in the corner of the artists icon & a message asked if I wanted to hide it, I did. Then it disappeared from that screen and my phone. Problem solved.

I am having a variation on the same problem. I syncronize with a PC. Until now, it hasn't been a problem. All of a sudden, the music that should be sync'd adn appearing on my iPad is now appearing with the iCloud icon and is stored on the cloud.

It's all my music. It's what I wanted on the iPad. But it's storing on the cloud.

I don't want to have to download or play from the cloud. How do I get it so the music is on my iPad when I sync?

I'm have the same/similar problem. I purchased a song on iTunes. The song is downloaded on my iPhone. I add the song to a play list. I later delete the song. It shows up as an available song, to download from the cloud. Some time later, I decide to add it back to my play list, but it won't download. I have somewhere between 25-50 songs, doing the same thing (show as available to download, but will not download).

I've looked all over for a solution, but none of them seem to resolve this problem. The worst part is, the songs in question will play, as long as there is a data connection. However they will not play, when the data connection is unavailable (obviously, b/c they are still stuck/trapped in iCloud and not on my local device).

Proof?

I love that question...

You're confusing streaming songs stored by iTunes Match in iCloud, which requires a data connection each time they are played, with re-downloading the songs to your phone for playing without using a data connection.

To download the songs, you need to do this from the iTunes Store.

The songs stored in iCloud (with the cloud icon), can't be downloaded - only streamed.

That's not correct, at least for those who don't subscribe to iTunes Match. I turn off the "Show All Music" option, but if it is on and I tap a cloud icon for a song that is not on my device, it is downloaded.

It is also not correct for those of us who do subscribe to iTunes Match.
