Q: Roaming Network with wired connections

Hello,

 

I've searched google for an answer, but haven't been able to find the right answer (maybe i'm asking the question incorrectly). Here goes:

 

I have a roaming network setup, which seems to work like it should when using wifi. The cable modem --> (5th gen) Airport Extreme --> (6th gen/AC) Airport Extreme. I want to hardwire (connect via ethernet) my pc and my PS3 to the AE 6th gen. When I try to do so, both the PC and PS3 say there is not ethernet cable plugged in, even though it is clearly connected.

 

Is there a limitation that one cannot hardwire on a roaming network or is there something I am missing?

    Not that I am aware of. If configured properly for a roaming network, the Ethernet ports on your 6th gen Extreme should be enabled for wired clients. Please double-check the link I provided to be sure that you didn't miss anything when you set up yours.

    Thank you for responding. Unfortunetly, I think it is a hardware problem. I rechecked all the settings and plugs. I also used different ethernet wires just to make sure. Nothing changed.

     

    Finally, I tried to setup the airport extreme as a new network. I wired in the pc and the ps3, and both said there was no cable plugged in.

     

    Unless anyone can think of a reason that would happen, I am going to return the router and pickup a new one.
