Well that a new one on me... I have an older AE and I just use normal cables...
Wonder if anyone else has found this?

Sep 30, 2013 4:05 PM in response to Shawn Grinter 2by BigBusbyNige,Yes Shawn a very strange one.
I have just recently moved from the UK to Australia, my existing APE is following in the shipment, so I bought a new one.
Took me ages to get it working, kept saying that there was nothing plugged into the WAN port. BUT I could unplug the WAN cable and plug it into another router and it lit up like a Christmas Tree.
I tried a crossover cable out of couriosity and it worked.
I had the same issues with the lan, all cables worked with the old router but not with the new. I chopped off the RJ45s and put new ones on swapping orange for green and everything came up.
I called a disbelieving chap on the AppleCare help desk who was taken aback.
I was, under my lateral thinking confused, thinking that it was something to do with AU standards.........
They have agreed that it is falty and arranging a replacement.

The TC and AE new models seem to have a lot of issues with some modems.. cable in particular.. and the WAN port does not seem to make connection.
Unfortunately our previous solution was to set WAN port speed.. which was built into the 5.6 utility.. you could set it to specific speed and half or full duplex. Apple have now removed that functionality.
What modem exactly do you have?? That will be very useful to know..
And I do not think that just because you are now on the bottom of the world.. Welcome to AUS btw!! that everything here works backwards.. mostly it works the same way it does in the Northern Hemisphere.. !!
Only now instead of BT ruling the roost you have our version of it.. Telstra.. often known by its destination.. Hellstra.

Sep 30, 2013 4:28 PM in response to LaPastenagueby BigBusbyNige,My existing set up is an NBN Fibre router (multi-port voice/data (standard install)) connected to a TP-Link router.
I have replaced the TP Link router with my APExtreme.
That's what I couldn't understand, why it would work with one but not the other.
Simple process of elimination, try a crossover and... VOILA

Sep 30, 2013 11:02 PM in response to BigBusbyNigeby LaPastenague,People are experiencing the issue with fibre similar to cable modems.. anyway if Apple replaces it tell us what the result is.. my feeling is the issue will continue.. it is a bug in the unit.

Oct 6, 2013 7:47 PM in response to BigBusbyNigeby LaPastenague,Ok, so no need for the crossover with the new one..
That means there are heaps and heaps of faulty Gen6 AEBS and Gen5 TC because the issue is pretty common.

Nov 1, 2013 12:34 AM in response to BigBusbyNigeby Ivan H,Hi BigBusbyNige,
How do you prove to Apple that it's the ATC's problem? And how do you move the ATC's data to the new ATC?

Nov 1, 2013 3:14 AM in response to Ivan Hby BigBusbyNige,Well. Make up a new patch lead or buy a crossover one.
If you can't do that then cut into your existing one and connect the following back up:
Orange/white to Green/white
White/orange to white/green
And vice verca
No need to connect the blue or brown pairs.
Effectively you swap the following connectors.
1-3
2-6
3-1
6-2
If it works tell apple what you have done and refer them to this thread.
