Sep 30, 2013 12:17 AM in response to Stiffwoodyhillby Roger Wilmut1,In order for a lost iPad to be located you have to have set 'Find My iPad' up on it before losing it, and it has to be on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network (how else could it transmit its location) - if any of these conditions is not true then locating it is not possible.
Any half-sensible thief will wipe it immediately to prevent its being found: I'm afraid there is nothing you can do.

Mar 11, 2014 6:14 AM in response to Roger Wilmut1by Ganzboys, this sounds silly but I can't remember if I set up "Find my iPad" when I first got it. My iPad has been missing since Friday and it occured to me today (following Tuesday) to search for it. I don't know if it's lost in my house or if I lost it somewhere and someone now has it. When I search for it on "find my ipad" it says that it is "offline". I know this can mean the battery is dead and is potentially still in my house. My question, is based on what you said above, is it possible for someone make the ipad untrackable? I'm not very tech savvy so I'm not sure of the correct lingo? I'm really just desperate to find out other ways to track my iPad. Do you have any suggestions of other things I can try to track the iPad knowing it has this offline message?

Mar 11, 2014 9:16 AM in response to Ganzboysby Roger Wilmut1,If you've set up Activation Lock on it using Find My iPhone then a thief can't do anything with it.If you didn't, then all they have to do is wipe it. If it's off, or unable to connect to a network, it can't announce its position. If you can't find it now then I'm afraid you're not going to be able to locate it, you can only physically look for it.
