how solve 'this accessory may not be supported' message when charging??

Using genuine apple chargers - all give the same message. Have same problem connecting to PC via USB. Has been working fine for months and yesterday just gave up. Perhaps docking station? Or ios7? Tried cleaning - ughh! Going to run out of charge soon

I've had extended Apple Care for my iPhone 6 & it has not wkd correctly since I bought it!!

I've been in the store with their "geniuses"; I've had several cases with Apple Care sr tech advisors who have tried to help, I've spoken to my svc provider & To Mac & even with deleting my ENTIRE PHONE because they say it's a software issue!!

And yet it things like this still happen!!!!

I was authorized by 1 Sr Tech to go to store & get replacement phone after numerous hours trying to correct ALL the problems on my phone!! Had an appt w/a genius who refused & told me Apple Care Sr Techs not authorized & told me I ought to"take a lesson!!!"

I was enraged at that point since we be had2 prior iPhones!!! Then started doing things & saw how screen would show 1/2 page vertically.. the page showing had nothing to do with page was on!!!

So don't answer that previous person doesn't know what he's talking about!!!

Same happens with my iPhone 4. This phone is in an excellent condition and always charged with no problems. I only have genuine apple cables and chargers accept for my car. Funny, the Monster charger in my car works but none of the genuine apple cables do. Not even when connected to my my computer will the iPhone charge. Always throws the "This accessory may not be supported" OK error on the display.

To all those that suggest cleaning the charging port or getting a genuine apple accessory instead of an aftermarket one - you have no idea what you are talking about...

The problem is without a doubt iOS7. As of iOS7 only supported apple accessories should work. The problem is that this is not the case - even supported Apple devices do not work (with iPhone4, iPad 2 seems to be fine). Either someone really screwed up the programming in the detection software or Apple begun to put some detection technology in their newer chargers/cables which would mean that old accessories also do not work but a brand new accessory would. In other words - if you upgrade to iOS7 you might need to purchase a whole new fleet of chargers, cables and docks from Apple. What's interesting however is that even folks with iPhone 5's are having this problem.

So, I really love my iPhone (which is still working perfectly fine after 3 years of heavy use) and I was really thinking about getting an iPhone5s but Apple's current strategy to squeeze even more money out from their already overpriced devices is making me sick.

Get's better - downgrading to IOS 6 would solve the problem. Unfortunately, as of iOS7 this is no longer an option.

Better yet - tried calling Apple Canada but it costs $35 to open a singel incidednt report.

As much as I love iPhones, I am currently investigating Android options, HTC One, Motto X... There will be a learning curve but at least I rid myself of these vultures...

The problem is without a doubt iOS7.

That's such a steaming pile of manure I can smell it across the interwebs.

If the issue were truly with iOS7, how exactly do you explain the issues that many hundreds have reported prior to iOS7 with every previous generation of iPhone?

Furthermore, explain the many hundreds of users that have resolved the problem by simply cleaning the dock connector.

Better yet, explain the millions of iPhone4 and 4S users that have upgraded to iOS7 (myself included) that have NEVER experienced this issue.

Again, get the information correct and stop shoveling the manure.

Apple has never supported downgrading the iOS, going all the way back to iOS1.0.1.

That's how support works when the user has not purchased AppleCare and the device is beyond the 90 day free phone support for new devices. Again, nothing new here.

My iPhone 4 and iPad 2 neither one have issues with charging. I use my APpple cables, and some cheap cables I got at monoprice.com and they all work perfectly for me. In fact, I even have a "Muvo" battery case for my iPhone 4 and it also works perfectly to charge my iPhone. They all worked under iOS 6, and they all still work under iOS 7.0.2.

I bought a Mophie Juice Pack Air for my iPhone 5 back in April, and under iOS 6 it gave me the warnign that it might not be supported, but it still charged my iPhone 5. After upgrading to iOS 7, I still get teh saem message about my Mophie, but it still charges my iPhone 5. All fo my Lightning to USB cables (direct from Apple), and my micro-USB to Lightning adapters also work perfectly on my iPhone 5.

I suspect your issue with your iPhone and charging is somethign specific to yoru iPhone. I do know some people who had issues with their older iPhone 3G devices, that got messages about their iPhones not recognizing the device attached when there wasn't anything in the dock connector at all. Taking a new, clean toothbruch and brushing out the port solved their probelms for them, so it might be worth a try for you. The worst that cna happen is that you will spend a few seconds to maybe a minute and it won''t help. It might actually resolve your probelm for you, and as far as most people I know, the chance of resolving their probelm is worth the risk of wasiting a few seconds of their time...

Hi, I am having a similar problem with my phone since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.2.

However, what has been most frustrating for me tonight has been trying to post a new thread with my question. Impossible! I am sure it is obvious today is my first to post, so please be gentle with me. I have been trying to post my message stating my problem for the past 3 hours and I am tired. I could not find a place for me to post my first posting, a new thread for a brand new Apple website user, Me.

The most frustrating issue at this time is the following: (at the top of the list are the procedures I have tried already).

a. Tried different chargers, blocks, outlets, etc..,

b. These chargers, outlets, blocks all worked on my iPhone 4S prior to the update to iOS 7.0.2

b. Muted phone, turned off vibrations as well.

c. I have the iPhone 4S and it's updated to iOS 7.0.2.

d. In the middle of my explanation, I have encluded an example. ☺️

e. I am trying very hard to explain my issue so it is clear.

While trying to charge the battery on my iPhone, it beeps continuously as it tries to reach the next %.

EX: My ph is 7% charged. As it moves to 8%, it beeps continuely, which drains my battery and keeps it from charging. The charge will not move past the 8%.

A message also appears continually stating, "This accessory may not be supported." DISMISS is the only choice to click.

The only way I can currently charge my phone is to do so while it is turned off. This will not work for me.

Please, please help me. I am beat from this entire experience.

Think I may have stumbled on to the answer after reading several of the posts here. It's not the cables. It's got to do with the power being output through the cable. I bought a cheap $10 Rayovac AA powered USB charger to use as an emergency backup charger. There are 3 green LEDs on the charger to let you know the power output. When AAs are fresh (3 LEDs lit) it charges without a problem. When it gets down to just one LED lit on the charger I start getting the "this accessory may not be supported message." The weaker the AAs becomes the more frequently the message pops up. Put fresh batteries in and the message doesn't come up anymore. So it's not the cable or software, it's the power being output by whatever the cable is plugged into. iOS7 must have a minimum power level it needs to support charging. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. If you were referring to the post I left, here's the problem. I've tried different outlets, different cords and cables. I have been using the iPhone sfor at least 6 years. I have accumulated quite the supply of chargers, especially since I have an iPad and two other iPhone users in the house. The problem started for my when I updated my phone to iOS 7.0.2. After updating my iphone I don't think it's possible for the eight chargers I have inside and my car charger all quit working. I am not the only one with this problem. There are 100's of people complaining about the same issue I have. I feel like the only way to fix this issue is is to replace the 3 iPhones we have with another brand.

Last night after posting this, I turned the phone off and it charged without problems. Right now it is at 94%. The very frustrating part is when my phone is on, it will not charge due to the beeping and errors that pop up constantly.

Again, is there someone who has experienced the same issue found a way to resolve the it?

Thank you,

Rose

Having the same frustrating experience for my not even month old iphone 5s. Using a generic charger however the cable is the one that actually came with the phone. This problem is weird because sometimes it charges without incident and other time I get the accessory may not be supported message. I guess there is a chip in the lightning cable that the phone reads to tell if it is genuine or not, from what I have heard. If that is the case the charger itself should be fine, but maybe the software update is reading it incorrectly?

Having the SAME exact issue overall. My original cable somehow broke and I have only had the 5 since July. If you see my 4 cables they are hanging on by a thread and still work. Anyway, I got an after market cable which worked fine until this week all of a sudden it stopped charging it and now is saying this may not be supported. I have had this cable working for over a month. My phone will not charge sometimes. sometimes it will I have tried different cubes, cables etc. I actually thought one of my outlets was the issue as when i moved the cybe it would work fine in another one. I am going to try charging with it off and see if it works. I can say that even earlier this week it would register the cable just fine and show its charging with the bolt icon, but it wouldn't really charge.

I am not happy with the 5 and wish I never gave up the 4s......My husband is anti iphone and keeps saying I told you so.

I've had my iphone 4 for 3 years. Never had a problem charging. I clean the port regularly. I charged it before I upgraded to ios7. Since upgrading, I have not been able to charge, period. I've tried all of my cables, friends, relatives, you name it. Knowone is full of manure here. This is a SOFTWARE problem, period. All that I get is "This accessorymay not be supported". I've been an Apple supporter and user for over 20 years. If this situation is not corrected soon, I will NEVER buy another Apple product again and will bad mouth this company and their products as much a possible. This is an unexceptable situation. It's not a dirty port issue. That's laughable. Look how many people are having the same issue. Is it just coincidence that immediatley after upgrading the phone doesn't charge? Come on!

how solve 'this accessory may not be supported' message when charging??
