Missing purchases when changing from one country to another

Anyone had the issue where you changed countries, updated your apple account only to find you can no longer see any of your purchased music? Apple tell me that music is only available in the icloud within the country storefront you purchased it from. As I am no longer in the country of purchase I have no purchases at all, hundreds of songs bought and paid for that cannot be seen in my purchased page :-(
