Macbook Randomly Freezes/Locks up

Macbook, Late 2008

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)

I have a lot of available space on my fusion drive, so that isn't the problem. My friend who used to be an Apple Genius says that it may be that the battery that's on the logicboard has been depleted.

Any help is appreciated. It's crashed 3 times today in the middle of my work. It's annoying.

If it is a logic board problem there is no solution short of replacing it. But before we get to that conclusion, have you tried repairing the hard disk?

Well, I added an SSD and kept the old HDD internally for a fusion drive array using an OWC data doubler. If the old HDD is problematic replacing it with a new HDD is not a problem at all.
