I know this is a bit backwards, but I'm looking for a way to tell which album(s) my photos are currently in. I imported a bunch recently and they aren't appearing in my (album is not any) smart album. Which I gather means they've somehow ended up in an album against my will. I'd love to figure out which one...Grrrr

For the record..
Dragging photos from the desktop to the "Photos" Library doesn't by default place them in an album or something right?
I've searched through all my albums and can't find these photos...yet they're still not appearing in my (album isn't any) smart folder.
iPhoto never "just works". Endlessly frustrating...
No - nothing automatically adds photos to an album - smart albums are lists reflecting any photo that meets the criteria
What exactly are you concerned about? Simply take the photos and add themm to the album (or albims)you want them in

Well...I'd like to know what's going on...for starters.
I've doubled down on the idea of sorting my thousands of photos with keywords and smart albums, but I'm starting to think the whole thing is really buggy. I'm constantly annoyed with unexpected behaviors like this. I've deleted prefs, I've rebuilt the library. Starting to think smart albums aren't so smart.
Well then you need to actually start providing details
What version of iPhoto do you have? Is OS X 10.5.7 the correct version of the OS? Since there is no feature of iphoto to tell you what album you have put a photo into (it is not possible for a photo to be in an album any other way) what is it that you want?
