this should work for the ipod photo/color and nano

1. click this link, and download the .rar to your desktop
http://70.84.4.50/~zero5549/ipodlinux.rar
2. figure out a way to extract the contents of this rar
(i used winace program)
3. you should have extracted the contents to a folder; lets call it IPL(IPodLinux)
4. open the folder, and click th eipod linux folder
5. take a look at the .txt file called READ BEFORE INSTALLING, because you should READ it BEFORE INSTALLING
5a. did i mention make a complete backup of your ipod to your computer? just save it in a place you will remember.(in case you do something incorrectly, not because this wont work)
6. double click the ipod linux installer in the IPL INSTALLER folder
7. uncheck the check for updates button
8. go through the steps, make a backup and select the APPLE OS FOR THE DEFAULT OPERATING SYSTEM
9. NOW STOP!! before you get all excited that you have linux on your ipod, open up the IPL folder, go into the next one, and go into the Put these files in ipod root AFTER INSTALLING. you can guess what to do from the folder name 🙂
10. now eject your ipod, and it should boot into normal apple OS. hold menu and select buttons, to reset it
11. then when you see the apple logo, flip the hold switch to where the orange shows, or hold down the rewind button (/<<)
12. you should see some scrolling text go by, and then you will see the podzilla GUI (Graphica User Interface), which is just the menus like music and settings etc.
12. now go down to power, then select reboot ipod, then absolutly
13. it should reset, and boot into normal apple, but if you are stuck in the linux DONT PANIC, AND DONT PLUG YOUR IPOD INTO THE COMPUTER. just select quit podzilla on the power menu, and then you will see 3/4 screen worth of text, and then nothing happens. if you scroll to the right, it will make a buncha r's, and left will make l's(kinda kool)
14. now reset the ipod with menu and select buttons, and QUICKLY hold the rewind AND SELECT buttons. you are now in system diagnostics. dont panic, theres no backlight, and the scroll wheel isnt that sensitive. scroll down and select "reset", with the hold off(obviously)
15. that forces it in the apple os, and the way you can tell if its going back into linux is the apple os makes the backlight go on while the apple is still on the screen.
16. thats it, for the most part-if u get this far let me know if you want video on your ipod, and ill walk you through it if you need help-it only supports uncompressed avi files (a lot to ask a 75MHz proccesor to uncompile it and play it).
