Welcome to the Apple community.
In what way do you mean it is disabled.
It's really my wife's. She said it asked for a passcode, she tried all of our go-to pins/access numbers, and none worked. Now it has been "permanentley disabled".
At what stage did it ask for a password.
I wasn't around when it did it. I'm not really sure. She updated os, so I think first time using after update.
It's a little bit difficult to advise anything without knowing whether it was asking for a screenlock code or the Apple ID password.
pretty sure screen lock.
Not sure if Winston is around now, but if it is disabled due to entering the incorrect passcode too many times, you'll have to restore it to remove the passcode, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212.
Thanks for the link. I did what it said, started in safe mode to wipe/restore, got error message from itunes saying ipad is locked with passcode. Did I do something wrong? miss something? please help... someone...
That indicates that the iPad was not synced the the computer you are using while the passcode was set. You can try another computer that you may have synced it with after setting the passcode, otherwise you'll have to force it into recovery mode to restore it, as explained under "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or do not have access to a computer".
This is covered in step one of the linked article, where it says:
"Note: If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer" section below."
I did that (hold in home button while plugging in to computer) and it started to download ios, got most of way through then said same "locked with passcode" error message. so frustrating. If i can't figure this out tonight, I'm taking to store in morning. Thanks for any more info you can give.
just tried again said ipad server could not be contacted. ???
Since you're experiencing multiple issues it's probably best to make an appointment with the Genius bar at a nearby Apple store and have them take a look at things.
Thats what I was affraid of...
It might just be a server problem at Apple's end tonight, but I think your best bet is to see if they can restore it for you at the Apple store.
