    Insert the memory card, plug it into your iPad. If you have iOS7, you need to open your photos app, if you have iOS6 or below the photos app will open automatially.

     

    You can see thumbnails and choose which photos to import.

     

    You can also connect via USB to your camera, but you may need to alter some settings in your camera (I've never done it this way so not sure the exact how)

    Note that it will not read SDXC cards unless they're formatted differently.

    The simplest method is open the Photos app on iPad.  Connect the Camera Connection Kit.  Insert SD card.  Touch import if import doesn't happen automatically.
