why is my ipad 3 not charging after ios 7.0.2 update

after update 7.0.2 connection to wall-charger (apple 10 Amp) is no longer recognised. Only after complete (2-button) shutdown with charger connected does battery icon indicate charging. disconnect and reconnect charger leads to no charger recognised. Am I the only one with this problem? will it be fixed?

Are you using an apple cable? Lightning cables have little chips in them that have to be signed by Apple. If your cable is an after market cable then it may not work post iOS7. In iOS7 software was activated to look for that digital chip.

Apple branded cables will definitely work (if they don't, take them back) and ones by reputable manfacturers should also work. My definition of 'reputable' are Targus, Kensington and Belkin....companies that work with apple. The issues may come from the no-name cables people pick up online.

I was not using an Apple cable since they are to short. Lightning is from iPad 4 onward, but apparently the old connector also has this "protection" because using the original old cable does work and my workaround described above does work for the non-Apple cable (so I know that it is not damaged). So thanks Apple, for making a perfectly good cable useless and making us pay for this extra feature on its own cables.
