If you have less than 5GB data in iCloud then your storage simply reverts to 5GB.
However if you have more than 5GB data, Backup, Documents and Mail will stop working until you either delete sufficient data to bring them within 5GB or purchase additional storage.

Snow Leopard users are stuck, as they can only purchase extra storage from the iCloud prefs pane which they don't have, unless they can delete sufficient data at http://icloud.com

Mar 26, 2015 5:18 AM in response to timacd32by bradleyfromcali,Man, they sure don't make it easy to give them money. I bought extra storage and then had to update my payment information. I did that, but there is no way to activate the change. Ridiculous.
