    it does let me save the appleid edit to the old one - but sends the verification email on that email too.

    But editing appleID and saving (without the email verification) did not have any change on the behavior on the iPhone, icloud contineous to prompt.  presumebly because that email/appleid in not valid until the email is verified.

    and, yes thanks for the warning on the email addresses - of-course those are not real, atleast not mine:). I used those as examples to clarify the problem.

    looks like I might have  resolved it - went into iCloud setting on the iPhone, and turned off every thing that was being synched - contacts, mail etc... once I did this it let me turn off 'Find my iPhone' without any prompt for the password. and I was able to delete th iCloud account, and recreate with the new appleID.

    Thanks for your help Randers4.

    You're welcome.  Glad it's fixed.  Sometimes there's a delay between changing your ID and being able to turn off Find My iPhone.

    Do you have you current Apple password?

    If NO, follow the instructions on iforgot.apple.com to reset your password. It will send an email to your rescue address to reset your password. Then follow as below.

    If YES;

    Change your apple ID back to your old email address TEMPORARILY. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in using your current (new) Apple Id. Now, change your Apple ID back to your old email address. It'll say that you need to verify that address (which you no longer have access to). Don't worry about it. Change it for now. Save changes.

    Now go to >Settings > iCloud in your phone. It'll say that you can't use the email address that hasn't been verified. It doesn't matter at this point. Scroll down and Delete your iCloud account. When it prompts you to enter the password for the Apple Id (which is your old email address, which is also your current Apple Id), enter your current password. Then it'll prompt you to turn enter the password to turn off Find My iPhone. Enter your current password then click "Turn Off". Follow the prompt about keeping data on your phone. Give it a few seconds.

    Now your iCloud fields should be all clear. Go back to appleid.apple.com and change your appleId to your new address. Verify your new email address, now you can login to your iCloud in your phone using your new address and whatever password that you have been using.

    I hope this helps. I had this problem with my iPad, but it should work with iPhone too.
