Q: block telephone number service provided with ios7

hello. i have an iphone 5 with verizon. i have been paying verizon $5 each month to have a block service on my phone which allows me to block numbers i do not wish to receive calls from.

i have notice that the new ios7 has an option to block numbers as well ... which is simple and easy to use.

i would like to cancel the block service i have with verizon and only use the ios7 feature. i am wondering if everyone has this option on their phone or is it just people who pay for the block service through their phone provide.

iPhone 5, iOS 7, Purchased from Verizon Wireless

It's a new feature with iOS 7, but it is not a true block, which can only be done at the telco switch before the call gets routed to your phone. Once the call has been sent to your phone the block feature will simply send the call directly to voicemail.

No, it just hangs up on them.

It is actually blacklisting.  You add the blocked contacts to the blocked caller/texts Blacklist.  When a call or text comes in, iOS grabs the caller ID information and compares it to the blacklist and mutes the ringer/tone while it looks them up.  If they are not in the blacklist, it lets the call or text ring through.  If they are in the blacklist, it disconnects them.

Oh, and there has been no mention of any limits and some people have already reported putting hundreds of contacts in the blocked list.  I would imagine, if any limit actually exists, it is effectively huge as you can store an awful lot of simple contact information in a very small amount of memory.  No one has yet reported any practical limit on the size of contacts, so I'd image the same is true for blocked contacts.

P.S. see http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/09/iphone-call-block-faq/ and scroll down to the link for

"Here’s what it sounds like: You’ve Been Blocked" to hear a recording of what a blocked caller hears.

Or, to save you listening, it is just the standard telephone call disconnected repeating beep tone.

Lawrence, I don't know that the calls go to voicemail using this feature. I suspect whoever tries to call just receives a message that the person they are trying to call has chosen not to receive calls/messages from you. Apple sates:

Note: Voice and text messages from a blocked contact will not be accessible.

    From here:

I suspect they just get a message, then the call/message is terminated.

I based my comment on a post in another thread that complained that their blocked calls were going to voicemail. I haven't been able to confirm that ether way.
