amazon email scam

Hi

I do often browse through Apple Support Communities for help but this is the first time I have asked a question. Apologies if I haven’t explained my question properly.

I received what I now believe is a scam email from “auto-confirm1317@amazon.co.uk” on 27 September, It had a zip file attached. When I clicked on the Zip file it looked like it tried to open up on the bottom of my mac where all my icons are, but it was fast (a split second). I have had the mac for 3 years and always leave it turned on and update when it asks, as this is what I was told when I purchased it. I have mac os x 10.6.8

If I search for order in spotlight this message appears, “order details 10.exe” is a windows application that was attached to a mail message. Are you sure you want to open it?

Mail received this file on 27 September 2013.

I called the apple care and they seem to think all is fine. There seems to be no problems with the computer. However my concern is that I have downloaded some type of virus that can damage my computer, or get all my data/passwords for the sites I use, like Amazon, online banking, etc. Any help on whether or not I may have damaged anything or downloaded any sort of virus would be welcome.

Many thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hi Klaus1

Thanks for the reply. I take it when you say delete the file you mean delete that particular email? I have been searching for where this zip file might be on the mac but have had no luck. I'm presume then that the zip file attachment did not open on my mac.

I did report this to Amazon who say they have received many calls regarding this.

I have had this also, one look at it, it looked dodgy to me, and i thought, "i have not ordered anything off amazon, I use my dads as he has prime an its his email"

the email isnt actually auto-confirm1317@amazon.co.uk, thats just the name of the person like when you get an email from "john" or whatever, thats just the name of the account holder, the actual email is <halsted_madelyn@yahoo.com>.

and I am going to report this to amazon.
