I can't send but I can receive iMessages!

Hi!

I have a problem concerning iMessage: I can't send (but I can receive!) iMessages! Activation seems fine. Can send after reboot (battery empty) but only for a couple of hours as it seems. Then the 'sending bar' stops again at about 90%. Waitet for 1h+ yesterday - no luck. Received iMessages in the meantime. Email work fine, so does Safari. So it's neither the cellular nor the wifi-connection per se. I used 'send as SMS' to be able to text my friends, but don't consider this as a long time solution. Any ideas what is wrong with iMessage / my phone?

Problems started sometime after update to iOS 7.

Thanks in advance for your help!

:)

Try this:

1) Settings

2) General

3) Reset

4) Reset Network Settings

This will reestablish the link for the cellular connection and the cellular data as well as the saved WiFi connections will be reset.

Also Check this:

1) Settings

2) Messaging

3) Ensure iMessage is turned on (sometimes it will turn itself off for some reason)

4) Press on Send & Receive

5) Ensure that all emails you want to be reached at as well as your phone number are listed there

Remember that iMessage requires a data connection so with out either cellular data or WiFi it will not work.

Thanks for your super-quick answers. As I noticed for myself the rebooting is only a temporarily solution. (And not a really practical one for me, as my lock-button is broken and I have to wait for my battery to die. :/ So I tried the network settings reset. Everything is fine for the moment - hope this solution lasts longer than 12 hours or so. ;) Only time will tell! I'll write again when the problem occurs again and hope for a solution via update if so.

Good days!

My phone is a year old and I have wifi setups for about 8-10 locations, many of which I only use occassionally. If rebooting helps me from having to re-enter some of those 2-3 months from now when I need it, and I have to dig to find the WiFi password, I'll reboot every day until Apple fixes it.

To each his own. I've seen posts that the reset network connection is temporary as well. Perhaps it does last longer than the reboot. If you only have 1-2 wifi networks saved, that would be easier.

This bug seems to be getting enough attention here and on the web in general that I don't think it will be around too long. I am sure Apple is working on it. Heck, they probably have quite a few employees with a 5 and have upgraded that are hitting the same issue. 🙂

Hi! Sorry to disappoint, but since about 2h I can't send iMessages. As described above, receiving still works (right now!) and so does everything else. But sending doesn't. The fix using the network settings reset unfortunately is just as temporal as the rebooting but a bit more frustrating, as you will have to enter multiple WiFi-keys again...

(However it's the only option I have...)

Hope Apple is presenting a fix soon... This way I'm quite disappointed. :(

Things like that should be tested. Hopefully they are at least noticed now.

Thanks for your help anyway! :)

Rebooting will work for a little while but eventually the same issue with your connection is going to happen and then you're just going to restart your phone. After upgrading to your new phone there might have been carrier settings that updated or a bug in the connection, resetting your Network Settings is a quick easy fix that lasts longer than having to reboot your phone multiple times. WiFi passwords only take a few seconds to enter after all 😀
