I recently downloaded DarWine so I could use a few .exe files on my iMac G5 PPC. When I tried to run the included sample programs, it said I needed "x11.app" for the programs to work. I am currently running 10.4.6, and still have the install disc that i believe contains x11 programs.
My question is, is installing x11.app really what i need? Is there a better way to run .exe files? I'd go with something like Virtual PC, but I don't have the money, or the means for which to pay for the software with.
Hi Spyte,
I checked the website of DarWine, as I was interested in this program, too. Save the effort: DarWine is
not able to run exe Files under Os X. It's still under development...
"If DarWine can't run exe files on OS X, then what can it do? "
As already stated...Nothing. Mac OS does not run .exe files.
If you have an Intel based Mac, you can install Prarallel's virtualization software or Apple's own Boot Camp in order to run Windows, and ultimately your .exe file.
If you have a PPC based Mac, your only options would be to install Windows through Virtual PC or Guest PC...both of which must be purchased.
