Tax on iPhone

This maybe a dumb question but do you have to pay tax when you go into an apple store to buy an iPhone?

I notice that online it's like aprox. $50US extra in taxes for an unlocked iPhone 5S.

If you do not live in the US, you can not buy from the US Apple Store. Your question has no meaning since you can't do it anyway.

IF you live in the US and you make a purchase in the store, sales tax is calculated based on the price of the item you're purchasing and the tax rate for the city and State you are in. If you purchase on-line, it's calculated based on the tax rate at the point of delivery.

Sales tax will be charged based on the address to which the iPhone will be shipped.

You are aware that you will not get any service from Apple, should that be necessary, for a US-sold iPhone in another country? And that you'll probably need to pay VAT and/or import duties when you bring the iPhone into your country? For these reasons it usually works out much better if you buy the iPhone in your own country.

Regards.
