Error 0x80020022 while burning DVD at 4x

Question

Error 0x80020022 while burning DVD at 4x

Hi there!

Any suggestion for the above message? The DVD burning was interrupted at about 80% with the following message (I'm traslating it from Italian so it may differ a little from English OS):

"Burning process didn't succeed because the communication with the disk unit was interrupted. (Error code 0x80020022)"

I had the same thing happen, and it happened right when I accientally bumped the machine when it was in the middle of the burn. Perhaps that's what happened in your case? Was there any physical disturbance?

Hi CA1900,

no bumps, the MacBook was on my desk and I didn't even touched it during the burning process; and yes, it was attached to the mains... I think I will retry at 2x instead of 4x, but I'm a little disappointed...

I've had similar problems with my iMac.
Apparently it's down to one of these:
The Media(DVDs/CDs) - some macs can't burn certain speed or types of discs, I know that the macbooks aren't capable of burning dual layer discs. Though you'd have to check the specifications of the optical drive. The drive is a lot slimmer on the new macbooks compared to others because of the smaller size book.

Could also be a problem with the OS and the drives compatability, though I doubt this with the new macbooks... its definately a problem with the older iMacs.

The best option in my opinion is to just burn at a much slower speed if possible, much more reliable.

Hi. Same problem with my new macbook.

Tried two RI-DISC 8x certified, same error.

Tried again with a lower quality PRINCO DVD 4x, with no errors, just a slowdown to 2x.

Tried with 2 Verbatim 16x cerified without "anomalies".

Tried finally once more with RI-DISC 8x : success

I guess the first 2 discs were damaged, maybe some scratches on them, and maybe the matshita unit on my macbook is a little bit "ticklish" 🙂, just to use an euphemism 😀
