Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
From your description it sounds like the music file is missing.
This article may help you find it:

It is possible you may have to delete the missing entry from your iTunes library and re download the purchase from the iTunes store.

Oct 25, 2013 8:06 AM in response to djgrits7by Luv2Go,I have this problem, too. The music or video plays just fine on my computer through iTunes. But if I drag and drop that file onto my phone, it iTunes goes through the steps to download the fiel but it never actually downloads the content, just the filename. Then the file is shown greyed out on my phone in iTunes. I am on ios 6.1.3. This stopped working before I updated to iTunes11.1.2 (which is why I updated). I think it must be something Apple changed under the covers, but Sheesh... Being able to download content to my phone is a major reason I have an iPhone.

Nov 7, 2013 9:18 PM in response to djgrits7by JuliePoe,I'm having the same problem since I got the iPhone 5 with the new iOS 7. Where songs are greyes out and not downloadable. And their new iOS 7 patch/update hasn't done anything to fix this. Just the dizzy crap gone.
