Why do the circles around the numbers on the lock screen only sometimes light up?

I don't know why, but sometimes, they light up as white circles, but other times, only the ones near to the centre of the wallpaper light up, and only the parts nearest to the centre of the screen. That'll be to do with the wallpaper itself, as it's got a bit of a white bit in the centre and black everywhere else - but why do the circles only sometimes light up? And is there a way to make it so the circles are always lit up?

It sounds like the keys on the passcode lock screen dont light up consistently.

I want to recommend a couple of things here. First close all the apps that are running on the phone:

iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

Then restart the phone:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Next I would try backing up to your iTunes library, then restoring the device.

I would setup the phone as new, temporarily to test the Lock Screen buttons and see how they work on a fresh install of the OS with nothing restored to it. If it works as expected, then I would restore from your backup and verify it still works.

After some playing around, I found that the lock screen buttons work fine IF the brightness is reduced to the minimum. Not sure if that will make any difference, but it does mean the lights on the buttons work.

I use iCloud to sync and backup, not iTunes. Usually when I restore my iPhone, I end up losing half my app data, so I can't do what you asked. Anything else I should try?
