New iPhone 5s shut off unexpected and won't turn back on

I just received my new 5s. I activated it. Made a phone call. I was downloading my apps, and using them, when the phone shut off unexpected. I tried to turn the phone back on, the apple logo appeared, then it went to the waiting circle for a couple of minutes. After a couple of minutes the screen had a blue screen for a second, then it went back to the waiting circle, then it turned off. I've tried turning it on a couple of times with the same results. Help!

I just experienced the black screen shut down for the first time. I held down the home button & the start button for about 90 seconds. Then the white scren appeared with apple logo. i then pressed the start button. then everything was back. Your solution worked great! I love my 5s it has been flawless for 3 years. It feels so good to have a community of fellow i phone users who share their knowledge of apple products. i hope to contribute myself one day. Thanks

My phone just did this a few seconds ago and I was so terrified as I tried pressing the Home Button then long-press the Power Button but nothing happened. I then tried to press and hold the Power Button and the Home Button at the same time and a few seconds later I could see the Apple logo and I unlocked the phone and everything was back to normal.

Hello Keith,

Congratulations on your new iPhone 5s! I would be concerned too if my iPhone shut off unexpectedly and would not power on. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off

  1. Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
  2. Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
  3. Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
  4. After at least 15 minutes, if:
    • The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen User uploaded file. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
    • The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
    • Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
  5. If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
    • If the display turns on, go to step 4.
    • If the display remains black, go to next step.
  6. Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
  7. If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Hi Everyone,

I just want to tell about my problem with an expected shut down a few minutes ago.

Actually I got panicked for seconds then I logged on to here to search for a solution then I did the following:

I held down the power button along with home one for about ten seconds then it went back on.

This is the first time I encountered such issue taking into account one thing that I just updated my iPhone 5C to the latest iOS 7.0.6 two days ago so now the question is : does this problem has something to do with this latest iOS update?

Thanks

We'll one more thing to add that after the new update I went to charge my iphone and a weird thing I found that battery percentage was 100 % but when I unplugged the charger battery percentage was reading 97% then I left it for more half an hour but same result.

Any idea about this issue and my above posted reply regarding unexpected shutdown ?

Is there a relation with the new iOS update ?

Thanks
