Ive already tried the trouble shooting that was already submitted. I turned off Dolby and audio out. Still not working. The sound was working fine until I updated it.

I updated it because I was having trouble with my home sharing because I had the new version of iTunes on my PC and old version of Appletv I assumed.

But now I have no sound not even the sound of the curser moving

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    3. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    4. Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
    5. Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

I also own a Roku and switched devices on the TV's and it still didn't work...I ended up unplugging my actual TV and replugging it in and that worked...

I have exactly the same issue.  After the update, streaming from my iMac to my Apple Tv is so slow that it cuts out while viewing.  First the sound drops, then the movie freezes.  I have checked the network and signal strength etc is fine, and I am not streaming from the Internet, but from my Imac or devices via airplay.  All Apple technology, all up to date.  The error seems to be a bit inconsistent.  Sometimes I get through 15 minutes of program before I have an issue, sometimes I cannot get a 3 minute home video to play.

This issue only appeared after the last update to the Apple Tv.

    Really frustrating.

Just adding myself to the list. Latest Apple TV software update seems to have borked the sound over Airplay.

I'm using an up to date, latest gen Macbook Air. AppleTV worked fine playing sound through the TV until I applied the latest update (it's the first software update I have ever applied since I bought the Apple TV).

I checked the audio settings on Apple TV - all fine. Rebooted both the MBA and ATV - same result, no sound through TV.

I've got a nice brick now next to the TV since Airplay is all I use the ATV for...

    Expected better from Apple.

Same here. Apple TV lost audio in airplay since my updated the software as instructed last night. It's fine if I juse watch whatever there is on the apple TV but no sound whatsoever in airplay. I tried everything apple previously provided as possible solutions, reset, reboot, unplug everything and replug, change settings, etc. Can anyone help fix this?

I did a reset of my apple tv by plugging it into my iMac with the mini HDMI and doing a reset through iTunes.  New software was loaded.  This was two weeks ago and my issues seem to be resolved.  No dropped sound or streaming issues since I did the re-install.  Apple TV working as it use to.

I had an audio problem just now and I changed the Audio Output to 16 bit and that fixed the problem.  Also, some have said changing the TV Resolution on the AppleTV settings helped with their sound issues.

Add me to the list of audio issues after software upgrade on Apple TV. Is there a way of removing that upgrade to Apple TV. I did mine on the 15 Dec and that is exactly when the dropouts started.

Thanks to Winston Churchill above. I followed Step 1....restart Apple TV and now both Audio and Video are working beautifully,

A good restart goes a long way!

Reading previous posts and acting on some of them takes you even further,

Given that everything I have is just weeks old and all 100% Apple, you have to wonder how Apple screwed this up. Do they even test things before forcing them on us?

My Apple Macbook Air, connected to an Apple Airport Extreme router, using Apple Safari to stream  video to an AppleTV -- all purchased in December 2013 by the way -- worked fine until I applied the latest AppleTV update. Suddenly video could go through the AppleTV, but the audio only came from my MacBook Air.

Of course I tried again and again to switch the audio output to AppleTV via System Preferences -> Sound -> Output, but it kept snapping back to the internal speakers.

Finally, after looking over every possible setting on the AppleTV and my Macbook Air...

    1. I unplugged the power cord of the AppleTV

    2. Unplugged the HDMI cable from the AppleTV

    3. Unplugged the power cord to the Apple Airport Extreme wifi router

    4. Waited 30 seconds

    5. Plugged the power cord back into the Apple Airport Extreme wifi router

    6. Plugged the power cord back into the AppleTV

    7. Plugged the HDMI cable back into the AppleTV

And like magic audio still did NOT work.

Because I was using Firefox, I tried an experiement: I pasted the URL from Firefox into Safair and TADA! Suddenly audio and video was coming out of the AppleTV.

Curious, I then the URL into Chrome... no audio again.

So for me, the fix after the AppleTV update requried pulling the power cord of both the router and the AppleTV, and using Safari and not Firefox or Chrome.

    Hope this helps someone.

I tried all the troubleshooting sooting suggestions and nothing worked. Unplugging the actual TV is the only thing that helped to fix it. Thanks.

Same issue realized it after I updated my Apple TV as well.

Restarting works...BUT, I must restart every time I use airplay. One of the things I liked about Apple TV and AirPlay was that it was transparent. All I did was hit the airplay button and it worked. Now I have to restart my Apple TV every time.

I hope they correct this with an update. Soon.

Same here.  I have to restart every time I try to use Airplay just to get the sound to work.

  • RHN79 Level 1 Level 1

Exactly the same problem and I can tell you we are not the only one. I have 4 friends that experience no sound troubles AFTER an upgrade! A simple reboot fixes the problem temporary.

I hope Apple fixes this issue soon.

Same issue.  All iPad and Apple TV updates taken. Audio works first time after an Apple TV reboot, but silence on the second attempt.

    Feels like a bug.
